just trying to get my head around the south bay possibilities for the next couple months.

I had the best surf in a while today, but generally the surf starts to be hit and miss through
the spring before the doldrums of the summer so I expect to be fishing a bit more.

bill and other south bay dudes,
what does your menu of fishing options look like for the next couple months?

we got striper, halibut, crappie, bass, trout, (and kingfish  :smt003), I guess?

I'm ruling out anything involving an anchor or fishfinder this year. don't have either
yet and I'm tired of buying, rigging and preparing for new stuff,
I just want to cast, troll, or jig the stuff I have, maybe use a drift chute, that's it.

Some crappie are starting to be reported at Anderson according to Coyote Bait.

Steven's Creek and Lexington are due to get a trout plant this week.

ocean options:

I'd really like to try trolling the beaches near pacifica with a 4.5" rebel fastrac. I know chris says it didn't work
for him, but I guess I just have to prove it to myself that it's not a decent option for striper.

then there is trolling the bay for halibut.

then there is bottom bouncing the ocean beaches (sand city?) for halibut.

there is salmon in big sur (maybe WSB too).

maybe we should have a kingfish tournament. biggest kingfish on 2lb test wins it?  :smt003

freshwater:

I would still like to hit melones or don pedro for trout or bass. The guy that sells me tangerines
at the moutain view farmers market had photos of 4 10+lb bass (on big rainbow trout swimbaits).

just some ideas from a naive noob.

I am partial to more Forebay action then Oyster Point when the halibut roll in.

Ocean well drifting over the sand for halibut is going to be our best bet for a while. Hopefully some stripers sometime. I am hoping Pat invites me down for a little dabing...

Hi,

Some options to consider:
1) King fish at Santa Cruz
2) Sanddabs at Monterey
3) Sturgeon at Dumberton
4) Stripers at Bay (Coyota point, Candlestick, Oyster Point, Oakland Intl Airport)

I am interested in all of above (fish and locations),  But, I have not done them personally.    :smt002

bill, sign me up for the forebay! that was fun. what the hell are those
13" fish doing hiting 5" lures tho? that still makes no sense to me.  :smt017

But I ordered a couple smithwick rogues,  :smt004. But if I catch two fish
I will probably feel compelled to try some other lures again.

eric, I don't know if the kingfish are there in the winter. They are there early
in the summer tho, we caught them trying for halibut last year before the
rockfish season opened.

Are the mackerel still biting off Monterey?  I keep thinking I'll stock up on it for ling bait, but I can't find the time to get down there.
