Explain: Pay it Forward

I apologize up front but... please explain "Pay it Forward". i am still new to some of these terms. Thanks

basically, if someone does somethig nice for you (or even someone you care about) Instead of paying that person back with something nice,
"pay it forward" and do something nice for someone else, even a stranger....

That area of the site is full of acts like this...
