I need some advice - I want to take the clan out for BBQ and fishing on a lake in the East Bay.  I love Quarry - but right now it is busy and most of the banks are flooded, leaving sparse BBQ options on a Saturday, and you can't drink alcohol.

Which from Lake Chabot, Shadowcliff, or Del Valle would you guys recommend.  I have never been to any of those, only Quarry.  Appreciate any input for a good family day on the lake to teach the kids some fishing and enjoy some good BBQ.  I prefer somewhere that allows small habachi style gas BBQ (Korean BBQ).

Would be super cool if the BBQ site was close to lake shore and I could land the Yak close to it.

I am also considering the Monterey beach line, including 17 mile and Carmel - would be cool to do my first ever ocean shore fishing (in the USA) and BBQ - do they allow gas BBQ on the beach there?

Thanks all.

You could do it at any of the places you mentioned, but the key is to get there early, or reserve a spot.  Not sure if it's available for day use only, but the Hetch Ketchy camp we have used at Del Valle in the past is pretty cool for larger groups.

I'd go with Del Valle too.  You probably wont have an issue finding a space for BBQ, though during the summer it is usually pretty crowded.  You can park and launch from the swim beach instead of going to the ramp.  You can also rent kayaks there for the rest of your family to try out.  With this heat the striper bite may heat up, or at least the bass will be within easy reach of the beach.
