Might be worth fussing with if the cable is extendable and a maybe is the camera housing could withstand the extra pressure for another 40ft. Any thoughts?

You get what you pay for. I am not sure I would invest in this type of thing from HF. They tend to sell pretty low end stuff. That's why the price looks so appealing. I am not sure about salt water applications with this one. That monitor is not 100% waterproof. The weight of the monitor would be a lot on a kayak for something you have to be careful with.
Cool idea, I just don't see it lasting too long on a kayak.
Other than that it does match the color of my kayak.

Hey Brian, I agree with Tote in that you get what you pay for. There's a couple underwater video fishfinders you can hook video cameras to on the market between $300 and $400. Cabala's and Bass pro carry them. You'll fine them in the fishfinders section. I think their cable is a 100 ft maybe farther. For underwater photography there's all kinds of different housing for 35mm and video cameras. I want to get underwater housing ( about $1200) for my Nikon digital not just so I can use it underwater but in a kayak or a canoe as well. I have learned one thing about doing serious photography particulary of our sport in a kayak. Leave the fishing rods at home. Boy can I rant.
Why Do I paddle a kayak instead of a float tube or a pontoon boat? I like seeing where I'm going not where I've been!
Paddle safe and wrap'em tight.

I was thinking about a housing for the monitor. I have checked out the aqua view units and their monitors wouldn't be kayak safe either. Reason for looking at the inexpensive unit is that if something did happen I wouldn't be too down. I would use it more as a novelty than anything else. If I wanted to spend 300 -400 I would get a matrix sounder =).

I totally agree with Tote the HF has low end products, ususally made in china. But then again the color 'does' match my yak.

This is not for serious photography, simply a way to pass the time while drifting for halibuts.

This camera sounds worth checking out. If it was  to just last a few weeks you could definitely get a good view of the structure of your favorite spots.
