I'm considering a kayak for fishing and having never used one. I wanted to get some feedback from experienced kayak users. Not sure on which one to buy. I plan on fishing river shoals and ponds, maybe alittle lake fishin also. I know I want a foot paddle kayak. I know I won't be able to use the foot paddles over shallow shoals and will have to hand paddle if the current doesn't move me along. I was looking at the hobie PA but seems balky. Then I looked at the OB and REV. I'm not sure if size matters but I'm 5'6" and 190 pounds. If someone could help me make a dissuasion on which one may be best for me or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. If anyone needs any more info feel free to ask.

I am new to kayaks and yak fishing also, just recently got into it and found it really confusing.  I am starting to find my way a bit, mostly thanks to the extreme patience of the team here at NCKA.  They will guide you well.

From my perspective, I ended up buying a Hobie Outback, and I completely love it.  I like the space, the stability, the movement, the pedaling, the whole deal.  I don't know if I will ever buy a different one, maybe a revo one day, maybe a prowler one day, not likely now.  It's more about being OTW and fishing for me, than it is about kayaking.  Being this close to the water though is awesome, and the yak gives the sport some cool and fun challenges.  Highly enjoyable personal time OTW.

Hobie make a great product, and I really appreciate it as a brand.  For reference, I am 5'7 and 180 and I love it and it fits well.  I fish mostly lakes and ponds.  The pedals are insanely helpful for trolling, and for other types of hands free fishing, including snacking and pedaling :)

If you press the pedals all the way forward, they will "hug" the hull and you will glide easily over shallow waters.  You can also take them out really easily, and grab your paddle, which I do for shore landings.  The pedals are a non-issue for shallows.

I kayak fishing mostly from my Outback and love it.  It won't go as fast as the Revolution but I'm not into racing  :smt003  I can easily cruising at 2-3mph which is the perfect trolling speed for Salmon.

Take your time and demo the kayaks you mentioned. Look
at the deck layout and figure out yourself how you would
modify the yak for your fishing needs and take if from there.
Good luck. BTW, use the search for tips on how to modify
your yak for which ever you choose.
