My old man always told me "Son... Some days your the dog, some days your the hydrant"  Well after todays outing all i have to say is.... LET THE BIG DOG EAT!!!!  First let me give you a little background on how the day started.  My little man Whiskey River (6 month old bloodhound)  had an appointment with the vet to remove a few ounces of manhood.  When I dropped him off i couldnt help but notice the look in his eye as if to say to me in a deep new yorker accent "Your an asshole"  Before leaving the vet I asked if there was any way that we could get his dice back after they removed them and I recieved the most disgusted look on my wifes face but it is for a good cause.  I figured I could put them in a little sack and tie them around his waist once a year and he could pretend that he has a hanging pair.??? I got his balls back, I will wait for feedback from the group on what to do with them
I met up with rick at home depot in santa cruz and we headed for monterey.  The original plan was to go poke poling but we figured we would take the dive stuff just in case conditions were good.  I stopped by big jims and picked up his A.B. Biller gun to try out.  We arrived at pacific grove and began to feel the excitement.  Weather was good and so were the water conditions.  We suited up and headed out.  Now here is where I made my first mistake.  Since it was my first time with the gun I decided not to keep it loaded while I was working my way out to the fishing grounds.  After roughly a minute of swimming out a 4 ft leapord shark came into view and damn near tried to french kiss me.  He was damn close, and i couldnt get a shot off becuase I wasnt loaded up.  As soon as he appeared he glided effortlessly out of sight.  So I learn from my mistake and im always carrying one in the chamber.  We start diving and i start with a couple of bigger perch (I dont discriminate. If they want to be shot who am I to crush there dreams).  As I look up I see Rick holding up what looks like a small baby whale.  It actually turns out to be a 21 inch cabbie with some man sized gerth.  Way to go Rick that was an awesome fish.  So I swim for a bit more and end up getting a pair of 16" greenlings.  Nice fish.  Then Rick comes up with another big cabbie.  Now im starting to get a little mad.  but im happy for him.  As i glide over the ocean floor checking holes, I see a familiar and very welcome sight.  A marble green head with a white mouth and two beady little eyes.  Lead flies and pricks die. Prickle backs that is.  The eel turns out to be a fat and respectable 26" future main course.  Now I have caught a second wind and im pumped.  I pick up a few more kelp rockies and then we made a halfhearted decision to head back in.  Now this is where the old saying "every blind squirrel finds a nut once in awhile" comes into play.  On a routine dive not expecting to even take a shot,  a grandma looking fish is staring at me while laying under a ledge and I say to the fish.  Oh my grandma what large teeth you have.  Followed by the sound of steel gliding through the water and into the head of my first lingcod.  My heart rate went roughly 70 to 297 in a split second as the fish beat feet out of his hole like a chicken with his head cut off.  I retrieved my spear with ling attached and put that hooker on the stringer.  As we are headed back in wading through the shallows the waves are breaking and I decided to unload my gun after looking for the shark with no success.  Two feet after I unload a beautiful cabbie looks up at me from his hammock that he was relaxing on and glided away.  On his way out i heard him say to me" Hey idiot i thought you learned to carry a loaded gun a couple of hours ago."  That comment hurt me bad because it was true, i should have learned.  now i know and a spear in the foot is worth a good fish.  Just the nature of the beast.  Im cleaning fish now enjoy.  My first ever ling came out to a mild 26"

F*CK YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So happy for you bro!!!!

Really glad the gun worked out well for you and that my buddy's homemade "pitchfork of death" tip can hold a nice Ling!!! I loved the way they worked on rockies, greenies, cabs and eels and now that I know they can hold a Ling I think I need to put one on my little Riffe!!   :smt003

You popped that AB Biller's cherry on that Ling bro....I got that gun for christmas so that was its first taste of Ling blood....NICE JOB!!!!!

Rick!! That cabbie is almost as big as Darrel's dog!!   :smt007 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007
