Team Bridgeport was planning to paddle and fish the San Juaquin next weekend but with the monstrous 8Kcfs it would be all paddling and no fishing.
Plan B is the Stani. Flows there are higher than what Ive done in the past but still sound reasonable at just over 1K. We have 5 paddlers with a mixed bag of experience but all have time in moving water.
We will be running from Knights Ferry to Orangeblossom and are hoping for some local intel and maybe even a few pictures of the conditions.
Of course Russian rapid is of some concern but I was hoping it wouldnt be as tricky with a higher flow.
Any recent pictures of RR at 1K+ would be very appreciated.
thanks

That use to be one of my favorite runs. Very scenic and peaceful. You can get out on the left before russian rapid and there is a vague trail to walk up and scout the rapid. Just keep your paddles moving through the water and keep heavy pressure on the footpegs. I usually shoot the middle of the rapid. Have fun !!

Thanks Jack
Ive only had the pleasure of paddling this stretch 9 or 10 times but I was always disappointed to see the orangeblossom take out. It never felt like 7 miles and I always wanted more river.
Did you ever target the striper on that stretch? We were always hunting trout.

I found some footage of RR 1K+ and it looks better than the 700 that I used to paddle it at.
It always looked so straight forward until the bottom where there were 3 small stacks that didnt quite line up.
It sent me swimming a few times when I was paddling a tandem with partner.
Oh yes, this weekend ill be paddling a tandem with a partner. good times ahead.

Hydro, you should send a PM over to FishFarmer. he lives right off the stan (near orange blossom) and probably could let you know of the conditions if he's home.

Saw this thread early today, so I took my camera on the way to town.

It looks plenty do-able, but I don't know how much actual fishing you'd get done.

Pics are from the Orange Blossom bridge and park.
