Radioactive gas being vented from a reactor in Japan. This could even impact us if it gets into the jet stream.

I just flew out of Japan Thursday and arrived SF yesterday returning from a business trip. My office in Tokyo is devastated, but the people are all safe and unharmed. File cabinets, servers, and desks tipped every which way. several left to walk home to get to their families since the trains were not running. Couple of others stayed the night.

While I was there this time, I was awakened twice on Wednesday night at 3AM and then 5:30AM by earthquakes. I guess they were precursors to the big one. They were only about 4's, and even then was enough to shake the hotel. Can't imagine what the 8.9 would have been like!

Thgouths and prayers with everyone in Japan or with friends and family there.

Ob, glad to hear from you and that you are safe. I was wondering if you were in Japan at the time.

The harbor will probably be closed for a bit of time. A number of sunken boats need to be cleared . They're starting on that tomorrow. The small craft docks appear to be OK. Harbor was still surging late afternoon when these pictures were taken.

I'm now wondering if Santa Cruz will build a rockwall across the Harbor entrance (or something similar to the Half Moon Bay Harbor) to prevent the water surge in case it happens again.
