So here's another question, would it make sense to carry a side arm when bow hunting? Pardon my ignorance, I'm not a hunter......yet :smt001

Might make sense but its illegal during archery season if its all weapons then yes you can.
Most just try to be the better predator. All weapon season I bow hunt but never carry a side arm.

And there was a pig, or two...
We were all looking over our shoulders a bit more, but I'm sure the lion is eating well, as evidenced by the deer kill. As for the pigs, I wonder if they were there because of the lion, or the other way around?
My camera is currently on a tree overlooking the lion's latest victim. Those pics, and I'm pretty sure there will be some, will come next Sunday.

Carry a sidearm Joel? Why? If a lion wants you, and gets you ambush style, you are Puma-poop, sure as shootin' your now lonely sidearm. The dead deer in the water was a great lesson in Puma CSI. You could see the the deer hair on the water drainage pipe, evidence of the struggle. The neck looked broken, with a solid puncture to the back of the head. They must have landed in the gully with the water in it, the whole area fairly steep terrain.
I fear ticks more than lions.

Awesome pics Juan... pretty safe to say his (the cats') success rate is a tad higher than ours have been.

Juan, those might be the coolest pics I've ever seen posted here.  Especially the last group...  Look at how thick the tail is!!!  Very cool to see it on the prowl, unaware of being watched.

How scared one should be of Mountain lions, I guess that depends.  Do you subscibe to the "match the hatch" theory, or "any opportunity that knocks" schools of thought??? :smt001

I have an answer to that, it came up when I took my hunter safety class this weekend ( passed with 99%) the best sidearm for bear and cougar is chemical repellant, the instructors say it will stop a bear or lion in their tracks period, A bullet has to go in the brain to stop it, so a lot of practice aiming while under pressure and in the path of a charging predator is needed to be good at it, not many people here are trained military...but pepper spray is a somewhat non-aiming devise, you might even get a whiff youselfe bu it works.... also during bow only, its a Hefty fine for having a pistol on you, unless its in your camp. Answer- pepper spray for bear.
Juan those pics are awesome! It would be great to have a jack-in-the-box too see how far they can jump straight up..
