I found this article in Contra Costa Times and it made me feel
good that one more ****head has been nailed.  Three times in three weeks with 96 abs.  Punishment for Mr. Wang should be public flogging on a whipping post with both his family and his cronies family present.

It makes me wonder how many poachers are out there like that.

I hope the judge hangs him on a stringer.

No kidding. The reward ($$$) is obviously worth the risk for some of these #%^*wads.

IMHO they should have followed them to whom they are selling to. Closed and seized all properties and funds/ accounts.
A good caining, one hit for each AB
A good flogging, with a cow whip
Then use them as trolling bait to see how the population of Whites is holding outside of Bodega bay.
Just add Ocean

Or make him stand with a sign saying he is an Abalone Poacher on a busy corner in downtown Fort Bragg. I'm sure some of the good ol boys from Fort Bragg would love to meet old Qiang. As well as fine the crap out of him and seize his stuff. It's a total bummer when you think of how many other people don't get caught, or the ones that do, and the reward outweighs the risk. I'd love to up the "risk" for them ;)

These guys weren't exactly brainiacs.  They got caught the third time tank diving from a kayak at Van Damme, the place most frequented by wardens in California.  Toasters and other appliances could figure that out.

The point being these aren't the guys I'm worried about.  There's guys that are pulling this off successfully.

One rumored scenario is the "rent an expensive house on the bluff" deal, where they rent one of the many nice rentals on the water and then night tank dive for abs.  The vacation rentals are pretty remote, and one good nights haul will pay for it.

I feel the right thing to me to do would be BAN / put a  restraining order keeping them 100 yards  from the ocean (for life)  if they are caught near the ocean it would be like violating probabition ! Return ticket/ride to jail and you do not pass go and you do not collect 200$.

Seems like the endeavor is so lucrative that poachers are willing to roll the dice on being caught. Makes sense to target the buyers, and if they are wholesalers or in the restaurant business, pull their business license and close down their operations.

If the market is there for poached abs, there will always be folks willing to break the law to make a few thou.
Always willing to join others in the Monterey/Santa Cruz/Half Moon Bay area for a bit of fishing...feel free to contact me.

They'd be back in business under another name without missing a beat.

Ramble Alert:
Awhile back I heard someone say the ficticious business name thing is what's wrong with this country, and I'm starting to agree.  It removes any direct personal responsibility.  Opens up all sorts of creative options for the savvy entrepenour, with very little personal risk.

Why did they choose to not publish the name of the other individual involved?
