I had to reread that sentence too, Matt. I think he means: this is a kayak fishing site---if we wanted it to be a diving-specific site it w/b called NorcalUnderwaterHunters or something that's more diving oriented. The diving section of NCKA is just a small part of the site, in general. It's not THE reason why people come here & join.

Yes, that's exactly what I mean.  Sorry if it was worded clumsily.

it is all good Allen, that is why I asked for some clarification. I agree totally that is the difference between the 2 site's.

I just don't like the idea of giving out good spots on the world wide web, but sometimes I want to talk with folks about a fishing or diving experience.  If were up to me, I'd probably say 20 posts.  With folks that have some commitment here, I'm more trustful that they won't hose these spots.

anytime im on a post it shows what members are browsing the posts but then sometimes it says "guests" browsing the posts , im just wondering who those people are ! if your not contributing anything by just being a lurker then you have no business looking at reports, this happend to a smaller club i belong to and our answer was to make the entire club private with new members only joining by invite of another member. that probly woulndt work here given that valuable safety information should always be there for the starter yakker ( i was there myself) too view but certain reports shouldnt be there for the viewing pleasure of the entire web.

I get what people are saying... if anyone knows the value of being top secret squirrel about spots, it's me.   :smt003

I guess my thinking is... in the general kayak forums, only the reports are hidden.  If you're worried about keeping spots/reports hidden, then why not post in the reports section... where reports typically go?

The dive subforum encompasses everything - gear, training, locations, hookups, & reports.  I can see keeping reports a secret... but why would we keep the others hidden?

Whatever you guys decide on, I'm good with.  I like sharing reports with general populace instead of posting in just the spearfishing section.  If you'd like to keep everything in the diving section, then I'll do so.

If your average Joe Sixpack stumbled upon an epic spear report and decided "Cool, I know where that is. I'm gonna do that next wknd," the results c/b disastrous. Next thing you know, we have Newbies leading Noobs out into the ocean, without proper training of knowledge.

lol...thats exactly how I got into diving.

Dude, thats right on the money.  I guess what you just said kinda squashed any confusion out there on where to post diving reports.  Count me in as one who has been confused.  You got some info you dont want random "Guests" seeing?  Members only fishing reports.  Anything else dive related or you don't care who sees what you have to report on, Kayak Diving and Spearfishing.

Isn't it nice how we can talk things out?  :smt008 :beer2

It seems some of you may have flip flopped on your original vote.  I modified the poll so it should allow you to change your vote if you so desire.

I changed my vote to no, the only thing I'd like to see kept somewhat quiet would be actual diving/spearing reports, so if they end up being the same as all the other fishing reports, then I agree that having the whole kayak diving and spearfishing as private would do more to exclude potential members than anything else.

Dale's likely right here.  I don't need the whole diving section roped off.  I'll just post my reports in the reports section.  No worries.
