When I signed up for AOTY last year I had resigned myself in advance to just going with the flow. There are written rules and unwritten rules (ie, no help) and who knew what to expect as the thing went on. I was pleasantly amazed at how little controversy there was. Very cool.

I disagree with Eric's interpretation ("caught"), but I get what he was trying to accomplish, and I don't believe for a minute it had anything to do with gaming the AOTY rules.

Disqualifying the fish, with the rule notification, should have been enough w/o the editorializing. But, again, I don't believe there was any ill intent there either.

So, I hope there's room for reconciliation   :smt008

Man, that's a bummer. I really enjoyed reading Eric's posts and watching his videos. I found his perspective on a lot of things to be very refreshing.  Personally, I fish for solace and entertainment- the same reason I enjoy this forum, so the political side of things are lost on me. I hope he comes back because I really don't want to join Facebook. Eric, if you are reading this, I'm looking forward to meeting you in May.

I'm not sure I understand what happened,
However - it appears that there is a small group who always want to gloat over others problems.
We call ourselves brothers but I can't remember the last time I posted my dirty laundry to the public instead of helping my brother through hard times. What has happened is between two respected brothers and they each seem to have a valid argument, But that is for them to work out, not for the whole comunity to throw their 2 cents in and create another mess. Many times these issues could be worked out with a simple discusion between the parties involved (not the masses). I for one would hate to see another respected member leave due to a simple issue.
THIS THREAD SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSTED TILL ALL PARTIES HAVE HAD A CHANCE TO WORK IT OUT!!!

As for the issue of the catch:
I understand the anger over some of the AOTY policies - I was given alot of CRAP about a fish I entered having a open mouth so I removed it and went with my second best only to find that all those who gave me this CRAP also had fish posted with open mouths. Others had fish that were sitting on the bed of their vehicle. Hell some never showed a yak or water in the photos - were they really caught from a kayak?
This year I shelled out for the AOTY again but have no intention to enter a fish (just supporting the site).

Well said, Eric.  I am not sure what happened and really don't care but I'm sad to see the negativity and folks leaving...

I don't get how people get so worked up over kayak fishing.  The most relaxing activity on the planet.

+5 - which is why I shy away from competitive sports.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
