Vallejo Dave, Martin, and I were camping over night at Doran park last Wednesday & Thursday.  We couldn't pick nicer days as the weather was "perfect" and the crabs were out in force but most of them were either females or under size (the ratio was about 10 to 1 keeper).  We had such a good time and probably will do it again soon.  Martin tested out his dry suit outfit in the surf but I couldn't get my camera in time to capture the moment so he claimed "it didn't happen"  :smt003   Dave dropped his mirrage drive in about 10ft of water (during high tide) but Martin and I were able to spot and recover it in about 5ft of water during low tide after we brought all the traps back in.  Needless to say, Dave was happy to see his drive when we brought it in.  We all love happy ending don't we?  :smt003 Here are some pictures of our camping trip...

Sonny, thanks for sharing your camping crabbing trip. Looks like the 3 of you had fun, and that's what it's all about :D

I am relieved to hear that you and Martin were able to retrieve the mirage drive. That woulda been like $500+ lost!! Wtg Martin!! :D

Thanks for the pictures and the post.  I guess I'm gonna have to become an official loose screw.  Crabbing and camping with you and Dave was the best!  I guess this would be termed a stealth hook-up since we didn't post it.  As usual, another epic hook-up with my teammates and friends.  Crab for breakfast, lunch and dinner.  What could be better?  The recovery of Dave's sunken Mirage drive was just an unbelievable ending to a great trip. I never would have believed that a drive could be found and recovered in the Bay.  It happened!

Martin

My two daughters just finished the crabs.  Thanks again Loose Screws for sharing
your bounty with me. I am beginning to miss furlow days off from work.

Sure glad Sonny brought his lens. I failed to post the hookup and mine and Martin's cameras were underutilized. Otherwise the only evidence would be our elevated cholesterol levels. The bait of the day was my old socks filled with free fish trimmings from the fish market. That's long for 'smelly socks'. A major thank you to the top notch crew I hang with, good karma headed your way. Why would I chuck my drive in the drink? All I did was hang the drive over the side on it's leash while I cleaned off the raft of seaweed that had boarded. Problem being I'm knot challenged. Pam has just informed me, the hair hits the dye tomorrow. Calls my darkend hair 'artificial intelligence'. Gotta mind her after getting the two day pass with the coach keys while she's working.

Clutch move on the drive recovery!  Those weather pics are enough to make a guy salivate, never mind the crab!  When half the country is socked in under snow and ice, you guys go have a killer outdoor adventure with seafood bounty to boot.  That's so incredible and happy that you got to do so in the midst of winter.  Thx for the documentation!!
