DAM IT!  i thought.......well, wouldnt you just want to look.

Don't be so disappointed Adam....this mod looks universal, just be extra careful with the torch and you should be good to go.

PVC....would not be strong enough.

Floating rods are for people who flip :happy8:......having posted that I will likely flip and lose a rod on the next outing.

..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

I don't see the fascination with floating rods? Has anyone tested their "floating" rods with a reel, lures, and maybe even a small fish on the other end?

Thread Jack Alert.
FYI, the floating rod thing works and I've saved two set ups so far by adding some cheap pipe insulation to my rods. The first time was an unruly halibut. I had laid my rod down in the cockpit and was trying to get the hook out of the hali's mouth. The hali was on the clip but when he decided to go balistic my rod somehow got knocked into the water. Luckily that was the Baidarka and I found it a minute later floating beside my yak. The next time was at Lake Sonoma. Had a fish on while trolling and meanwhile rod #2 got snagged. C & R fish on rod #1 and then found rod #2 missing. Had to search in the dark for a while but eventually found the rod floating where it got snagged. All kayak rods should have flotation so kayak anglers will have more money for important things like beer. :smt001

Cool rod mod by the way!  :thumleft:

Art~ you are always good for a good one!  :smt008

Otter~ VeryCleanJob!.....now i would think PVC would do if you were just looking to extend a bass rod/freshwater rod....which does make good sense and i thank you for sharing it .

Nice work otter.
If you think you have a floating setup, TEST IT with reel and gear on. Those Okuma only float the smallest lightest reels. Found that out the hard way.

Same goes for Floating VHF's!  I lost mine, sank, due to a small carabiner I attached to it...
