My buddy and I are gonna try real hard to make this one.

I busted up laughing when I saw the picture posted above, as I took that exact same picture this past Sunday on my way back from Ft. Bragg!

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Kiel:

The launch at Elk realy depends on the swell.  Anywhere from no problem to no way.  The rules will allow you to launch elsewhere if you choose.

Glad to hear everyone is as stoked as we are.  REMEMBER to get a somekind of sturdy cart before the event.  Its not happening without it.

Question:  Are the wheels that come with the Hobie Mirage sturdy enough for the road down?  I've noticed they are worthless in sand, and the way the wheels attach is real rinky dink.  Never have been to this spot so I was wondering.  John

Hey John.  I have the same scupper hole cart for my Hobie Outback.  From my experience, those wheels are basically good for smooth trails only.  It just puts too much stress on the holes.  Our best bet is to buy or build a heavy duty cart.  For short hauls over rough terrain, I sometimes use a sling that I made.

Ok, sounds like project time, only other thing I'm concerned with is what goes down must climb back up, I think I was spoiled by that day at lime kiln, that was way too easy.  I'll cross my fingers for the shuttle plan to pass.   :groupwave

Wow.  Randy and I would love to participate in this tournament as well.  Heck, we just want to fish the beautiful area.
As regards camping at the Community Center.  Are there showers?

The portage isn't really rough, its just long.  We will be leaving right from the ECC, so its across the street, and then down a 400m long fire road to the beach.  Its well maintained but sloped.  It would kick your butt to try and carry it.  The beach is also pretty wide.  The ranger has decided to not allow our shuttle.  :smt009  They may still allow us to lock our boats on the beach for the weekend.

There are no showers at the ECC, but we are going to try and have a few pop up camp showers available.  With all of the fish and fishing showers of some kind will be wanted by all!  If my moms new house has power and water by the tourney, we can go there.  It is right next door.

Cool, thanks for that info, it helps alot, as for showers, a water hose will get the job done, really looking forward to this event as I have some friends up there I havn't seen in years.  Chuck, are you taking your mirage for this one?

Sean,

I won't get off work until 5pm and probably won't be leaving SF until 6pm putting my arrival time around 9pm.

Can we still enter the park at this time?
Are there still spaces available?
Will the group be in the same vicinity?
How late can we enter and still be able to get a camp site?

Still trying to put a cart together for the portage.
