I hung out with Mooch on Sunday and just seeing him inspired me to commit to getting off my butt and out of my comfort zone in the name of fighting to help find a cure for Cancer...

Decided since Joel aint done with Chemo, and Shicken is still battling as well, I should run another Marathon in their honor and raise some more $$ for cancer research.

In no way do I want to distract from efforts raising $$ for Mooch/Shciken themselves, and I am looking forward to starting planning for the 2011 Pay it Forward Paddle!!!

 :smt003 :smt004

But this is a way for me to challenge myself physically and emotionally for a good cause and all in honor of our NCKA brothers and all those fighting Cancer...and in memory of those whose battle is over and have now moved on.

I am going to train with Team in Training to run the Mayor's Marathon in Anchorage Alaska on June 18, 2011.

http://www.teamintraining.org/sj/firsttimehere/springevents

The season starts for Santa Cruz Team in Training on Saturday 01/29 at Soquel High Track.

If anybody is interested in joining me, there are several info meetings you can attend to find out what you are getting yourself into, or you can always just ask me.

http://www.teamintraining.org/sj/firsttimehere/infomeetings

Basically, TNT will train you up and get you ready to complete your event (usually Thursday nights and Saturday mornings for the Santa Cruz Team), and pay for your airfare and hotel the nights before and after the event, and you commit to raise a set amount of $$ that all goes to blood cancer research.

Half-marathons are also an option and are actually a LOT less painful than Full Marathons.  :smt002 :smt005 :smt044

Yakuza...Bloodbath...you guys expressed interest...there are Teams over the hill and we could all train for the same event and run it up there together...you down or what????

Sincerely,

Jim

ps...hoping to get in some fishing in Alaska after the Marathon and catch my first Pacific Halibut as well!!

I'm already registered for Seattle Marathon on June 25, 2011.  Running out of state marathons on back to back weekends would wreck more than just my knees, you know?   :smt044

I applaud your effort dude.  Lemme tag along on one of your training events sometime.  I see lots of TNT people at Aquatic Park when I'm swimming open water.  TNT'ers usually look like they are having pantloads of fun, whereas I'm usually all alone, cold, and serious  :smt005

Thanks Adam!!

No, anybody who wants to help with my fundraising will be able to and I will post up my Donation Website once it is ready.

I just don't want me running this in Mooch/Shicken's honor and raising money for the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society to distract from any NCKA efforts to support them directly....

My training/run/fundraising is just a way for me (and for anyone else interested) to support the big picture fight for a Cure.

Will keep you all posted as things progress!!

Jim

I told Valentina that I was going to run a long race and raise some $$ for Mooch and Shicken and she said "Mooch and Shicken? ShickenMooch!! ShickenMooch! ShickenMooch!!"
 :smt005 :smt044 :smt044 :smt044

So Team ShickenMooch it is!!
 :smt003

First training is on 02/05, but I already have my fundraising site up and running AND a challenge from PolePole!!

If NCKA donates $800 to my website by 03/15/11 he will buy my plane ticket there and back, thus allowing the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society to use the $$ they would have spent on my plane ticket for blood cancer research instead!!
 :smt007 :smt007 :smt007

SUPER grateful to PolePole for this extremely generous offer and very confident that NCKA will meet his challenge and come through with $800 as a group by 03/15/11.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and remember that no donation is too small and every little bit counts!!!

YUP, come up with the $800 and I'll match it with roundtrip flights to Anchorage for BigJim.  When you make a donation, please remember to add a comment to BigJim letting him know you are an NCKA member so he can keep track.

GO TEAM MOOSHICKEN!!!

-Allen

Thanks again for the offer Allen!!

I'm hoping we can make this happen...this is a great cause and one that is very near to my heart.

Cancer has taken WAY too many people I care about, and this is the only way I know how to fight back and help with the search for a cure....

Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions at all, and if you want me to run in honor/memory of anybody else...I would be proud to put their names on my website and race-jersey and take their spirit with me up to Alaska!!

Jim
