No really Mooch

I instructed my wife when full senility sets in toss me in up at Dux with one of my goofiest looking hats on

and skip the kayak and the big diaper and make it a pair of water wings with ff and a rod holder and a sign that says please keep the wakes down and don't rescue me please

here's a perfect water craft for you when your senility sets in....... :smt002

You can add a clicker to the c3 abu's. Easy and it takes about 5 minutes.

A little more info would be helpful.

The pictures are of a 5500 c3 reel. The same works for 4600 and 6500 c3 reels. I only know c3 reels. Notice the clicker assembly and the cutout on the reel side plate. I get the clicker parts from fisherman's friend in Lodi.

If you want a linecounter I have alot of faith in the diawa seelines the drags arent the best but my dad brother and myself have three with about 100 salmon each on them with out anything breaking.  My dad caught a 6' tresher on one with 12#line salmon mooching.  The shimanos are really nice but also sort of pricey.  I am not sure about the okumas yet They pack a million berrings in there reels but I am not yet convinced on the quality I got a screeming deal on one so I will use it for salmon this year and see if I like it.

I used a Okuma LC when I first started saltwater fishing.  I didn't think it the LC was too far off in terms of accuracy, but I didn't have a FF at the time.  I managed to catch a ton of RF plus my first 2 salmon ever with it.

My dad has the Daiwa LC but isn't too happy with it.  Can't remember what was wrong with it, though.

My .02, is wait for Alan Tani's reel seminar and change the drags.

Sounds like you caught several quality fish caught off a kayak, plus your wife likes to fish...  You must be doing something right.

san jose fisherman's warehouse don't stock 'em, have to call sacramento. but the reel parts dude is
always on break.  :smt013.

I checked with the shop today myself and they won't sell just the parts anymore. They used to be 5 for the parts.

I have stripped down the 5500 and 6500 c-3 reels many times as I am too lazy to cover my reels on upon landing and always get sand in them. However I have a 6501 that always gives me grief and I was going to ask for some help on it, as I have turned it in to a mess. I haven't tried the carbonex washers yet, they are a wet drag system if i am correct?

the 6501 is the same, but some threads on the crank assembly are reversed.

it's always possible you have a lemon reel, the quality does seem to vary on these things.

it's strange that the cast control knob is not reversed on the left handed reels too, but it's not,
only the crank assembly stuff.

the carbontex is either dry or greased. it is similar to penn ht-100 material.

I am going the alan tani way and using a little more grease than most people
might recommend. there is no question they are smooth with no
extra startup drag at all, but I'm sure the regular lightly-oiled stock drag washers
will do the job on 95% of the fish you catch. for me it's mostly a confidence thing and
the fact that I don't have to wonder when my drag is worn out as the carbontex
is supposed to last much longer.

I'm sure I'll eventually lay my hands on clicker parts. looks like the sac
fisherman's warehouse has them, you just have to get hold of 'paul'
the reel parts dude. calling mike @ www.mikesreelrepair will also work, or if you
know the part #'s you can use their on-line search. but since I have the schematic
to a reel without the parts, I can't search by part #,  :smt009.

I would like to clicker my 4601 and use it for trout trolling with my UL kokanee/trout casting
rod,  :smt007, instead of the 5601 (actually a 'royal express' model) I have on there now.

Jigmaster, 9M and Penn 500 or 505. I like the way the Penn allows to change spools. Med. priced, just make sure to run them by Allens' before you use them.

I have four reels and three of them are different brands. I could care less. What's more important is to have different set ups. It's nice to have a reels with different lines on them. A braided line setup is good for deep fishing or large fish. Twenty pound test is good for all around and salmon trolling. You might want 12 or 15 lb test for shallow rockfishing. Maybe some 30 lb test for rockfishing with an outside hope of catching a big ling (big lings go right for a crack in the rocks, so you need to horse them a bit right at the start to keep them clear).

Anyway, you begin to get the idea.
