I didn't know exactly where I should post this, here or places to launch, but I hope that others can chime in with their advice :)

My gf and I will be heading down south for 5 days (1/3-1/7), but we have not decided where we will be hanging out. We have narrowed it down to 3 places: Santa Catalina Islands, La Jola/SD, or the Grand Canyon.

I'm leaning toward the first 2 because I'm hoping to take my yaks to do some fishing!! :D Problem is that I dunno which of the 2 would be a better place to fish at this time of the winter season.

I hope that some can help me point to which area I should go and have the best opportunity to catch some fish. Of course yt, wsb, calicos, threshers, and sheephead are the ones I'm eying on ;)

Thanks again and wishing everyone a joyous new year!!  :smt006

Go to La Jolla if you want a shot at the big stuff!
My friend runs oex kayak shop.  Ask for the "Iceman."
Seriously, Andy runs a tight ship down there and knows the in and outs.
His site is Big Waters Edge.
Catalina is nice and the Channel Islands are amazing, but it you want to fish, go South!
The Winter yellowtail tail there are of the huge home guard type.

Anacapabob, thank you so much for that info!! I think you have helped me decide on what to do :D

Now, I have to convince my gf to settle on this place from the 3 options :) If I do end up going down there and have any luck w/ the yt, I will make sure to save you some :)

I hope others can chime in on their advice in regards to fishing La Jolla.

Thanks again, I wish you a wonderful 2011 :)

Sure thing!  Please let me know how you did.
I do my annual birthday trip to the Channel Islands in April. (Anacapa shockingly enough)
That would be a fun one for you and your gal too. I will try to put something together.
Happy New Year!

I've fished the party boats off Catalina with good success.  I heard they were getting live squid there just before Christmas.  I've never spent the night over there except for over-night party boat trips.  I used to fly over there to get buffalo burgers at the airport restaurant.  (I used to fly little airplanes.) When I get a little more  yak experience I'd like to try one of those "mother-ship" trips.  I'm too new at this for now.  I've never fished off La Jolla but I'm sure I will in time. -- I guess I'm not much help '  :smt005

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.
