A bunch of us are planning an early morning launch from Oyster point to Target Halibut, Sturgeon and the like.  Don't have an exact launch time yet.

I figure maybe we can start out trolling for stripers towards the poop chute/ the swirl - make bait - and troll again towards candlestick - park and try for sturgeon for a while and then drift back for Halibut - if the wind condtions permit of course  :smt002

Sound like a great plan.  I did hear we are expecting a strong weather system to move in on Saturday. We will have to keep an eye on things.

Saturday: mostly cloudy with a chance of rain, decreasing clouds late in the day. Highs mid 50s to lower 60s. Northwest afternoon wind to 15 mph.
Saturday Night: clearing. Lows mid 30s through the 40s.

This is from KTVU. Doesn't look as bound as the radar predicts. just an FYI

Is Oyster Point south of the sturgeon closure area?

I might be interested.

Everytime Mooch sais he's going to Oyster Point it starts to rain.  Last time, he didn't even show up.  Anyway, the weather looks promising after lunch.  I'll be out there somewhere looking for tasty herring.  JTF..

I'll be there.....and I'm going to try to drift for sturgeon too....I figure, if the sturgeon is hungry enough, it'll bite on something that drifts by it  :smt002 Who knows  :smt001

I wouldn't be too suprised Joel if it happened.  Two years ago while pier fishing at Eckley pier near crockett, I was throwing a 12oz pyramid into a raging outgoing.  I had just about given up on the day as I was the only guy still fishing and I couldn't get my rig to stick to the bottom.  I made one last cast around lunch time with my last grass shrimp.  I  casted my rig at a 45 degree angle off the right side of the T.  Just as every time before, my weight started moving to the left with current.  I just turned around and started talking to this old guy who had been fishing also and was ready to leave.  He told me that I had a bite and I replied back that it was just the current.  I turned around to see how far my line had moved to the left  and as I did I see a sturgeon come shooting straight in the air about 100 feet to the left of where I had casted.  So, either the bait landed in his mouth, which is impossible unless he was swimming upside down or he had nailed it as it was bouncing past him.  I fought the sturgeon for a good 30 minutes playing it careful since I was using 20lb test and eventually walked the bad boy to shore and landed him.  The current that day was ripping!  Every time I felt my weight hit the bottom I could feel it moveing with the current right away.  I was pretty shocked that I even landed this sturgeon.  When I cut him open I found a bunch of mitten crabs in his stomach.  This was in august in the carquinez strait.  So,,, I would definately say that a sturgeon might just nail a moving bait.  Stranger things have happened I'm sure.  JTF..

How big/long was the sturgeon? It looks a good size.

56 inches, 40lbs, its been a while since I landed a keeper.  I'm still trying to nail one on the yak, as a matter of fact, I've never landed a keeper in a boat, only shakers.  If you look close and squint you can see the size and date along with bait used on the white parts of the polaroid.  JTF..
