That's another good advertisement for bow and stern straps. I always use a bow strap, and if I am traveling at highway speeds I use bow and stern straps.

The bow/stern straps paid off for me one weekend driving up I-5. It was gusty when a sudden burst of wind broke my Yakima j-style racks. The only thing that kept my yak on the truck was the bow and stern straps. They take only an extra minute or two to install and remove, and when you need them, you REALLY need them.

Glad everybody is ok!  :smt006

Wow, sounds like a relatively good end to a hairy incident,,,,

Thanks for the post, I do have a set of straps that are probably ready to be recycled. This'll prompt me to pay more attention to them.

I've always been overly cautious so like Kayote I always add a cable lock. But the whole idea is to never have to rely on it

I just run it thru a scupper hole and lock both ends to a ring in the bed of the truck.
