Got rid of my uniden and moved up to an Icom IC-M72 = no problems so far. It's nice and slim, fits well on my PFD's pocket.

Jeff, I recently picked up a second Standard Horizon HX750S from Hodges Marine in Florida for about $114 out the door. Thought I had lost the first one...as usual, it was literally under my nose.  :smt010

I got a hummingbird from sportmens warehouse for like 85 bucks and is submersible and still works great...i think its one of the cheapest priced on the market but works well even after getting wet! Up to 5w as well.

Jeff one thing I want my next radio to have is LMR or FRS Channels so I can use it on land.
The radio Hojo bought is a great deal since they have replaced the 750/850 series with the 751/851 little tougher and added features.
if you don't need the floater the HX370 is a Tuff SOB with a huge up to 18hr batt life and can be programed for LMR it's a great value.
I really like the smaller radios that fit in my vest pocket, I always tie&clip to my vest so I don't need a floater.
I have the HX460 replaced by the 471 higher priced but very tough and super clear and small.
Make sure you get a radio with a good Battery since they cost almost as much as the whole unit mine's a little over 5 years and still charges like new 14000mAh LIon last me two days but in salt I charge it eveytime make sure it comes with a 12v charger.

Standard Horizon Customer Service rocks after 4 years my radio display fogged up a little still worked fine I E-Mailed them the sent me a new radio I got in 2 days. The fogging went away now I have two radios 1 for fresh one for salt.

X2 and I purchased  two (2)  with an additional walk away three year warranty from West Marine.  Both units have been replaced after two years. Just walked in and swapped them out but you have to re-up the warranty each time.

X3 ,I put the optional mike on my shoulder strap and keep the radio zipped in my pfd pocket. 4 years so far no problems, just rinse the salt off and a little dielectric grease on the contacts.

otobepelagic- how did your two units fail?

One thing I like about the IC-M72 is the 2000mAH battery, which seems larger than others in the same price class.

One simple word...abuse.   Now we rinse, dry, and dielectric grease every so often...but not often enough.

Before I purchased my radio I checked with the radio geeks at work. Every one of them recommended Icom if your life depends on it. I went with the Icom IC-M72. I have had it underwater a couple of times and I rinse it off after every use and I have had no problems. This model doesn't float but it fits nicely in the pocket of my PFD so it is always with me. The battery lasts a long time.

I have A cobra MR HH330. Floating, waterproof, even has a function called "burp" that will vibrate water off the speaker for clearer sound
