Interesting article this morning in the Chron regarding attacks by Great Whites. This part caught my eye:

'Sharks usually target the shortest kayak or surfboard when two or more are in close proximity.'

interesting article like you say, especially about the size of kayak/surfboard being a factor.

However, the interviewer is an idiot for asking, "Q: Why are great whites so misunderstood? Do you think they will ever be loved and valued as much as, say, the sea otter? emphasis added.

I would say the obvious answer is, a resounding "HELL NO!!"... although I'm not a scientist.

Sea otters are cool, unless they're eating my abalone.

No matter how much they study the behaviour of a shark or whatever. In the end it all comes back to the fact that its an animal an therefore unpredictable.
