Barracuda jumps into kayak, bites woman in Fla.

The Associated Press
KEY WEST, Fla. -- A woman is hospitalized after being bitten in the chest by a barracuda while kayaking in the Florida Keys.

The Coast Guard says the 45-year-old woman and a male companion were kayaking Sunday evening near Big Pine Key when the fish jumped into the vessel and bit her.

The man told emergency dispatchers that he could not row the two-person kayak to shore without causing further harm to the woman.

The Coast Guard says paramedics administered first aid to the woman, who appeared to have suffered a possible punctured lung and broken ribs.

The woman was transported to shore and flown to a Miami hospital in stable condition.

A few years back a great barracuda jump into the side of a houseboat and bite someone. When I was young we would visit my uncle in FL. When we went out fishing he reminded us never to wash the hands off in the water off the side of the boat. We used to see small ones when diving hanging around. Once we were at a boat motel down in the keys fishing off the seawall catching little fish. We threw one back in and almost as soon as it the water a barracuda sliced through the water and cut the fish in half, before we could say anything it came as fast and grabbed the other half. That's what I call sharp teeth. I hope the lady will be alright.
