Theres nothing cheap about santa cruz. Infact its a ripoff. I went  to north carolina and was shocked to see homes with land for 100k. Wtf?

you want rip-off look at Marin.  I'm always astounded when i look at other places, but any of the really desirable places to live (for me at least) are costly for the most part

I totally agree with you Steve... We got a good spot, but our home is real tiny and some what like a cabin feel to it. Only heating system in it is a wood burning stove, for the price, the dam floors should be heated...

You guys really want a rip off try San Francisco, 1800 rent without garage and thats on 2 bed 1 bath...

Darius,

Shop around my kayakless friend. I'm renting a 3 bedroom, 2 bath with garage in the city for my kid for $1800/mo. And it comes with bodyguards (neighborhood homies that think she's hot!!!!) I had a little chat with them and they look out for her and her roommates...

Wait, you did finally get a yak didn't you???

Rich

We're getting off topic here but I have to ask, if these prices are such rips, then why are you guys doing it?

Rhetorical question.

Put another way, my cousin bought a spacious, new home with a pool in a nice neighborhood for 99k....  but it's in El Paso.

I think you'd do it again in a heartbeat, rather than live in a desert...wouldn't you.

when my pops passed, and my mom invested 100k he left us into this house. we share ownership, i live there and pay everything but prop tax, thats moms part and she stays over a lot... I would have never been able to afford the 100k down payment. Im way out of my league. I live there cause its a special place my pops got us into and worked hard for the money. With out that, id NEVER be able to have got in here. But, yeah, its still a rip.... but being by the ocean does beat the desert.

Very cool, Brent.  My situation is somewhat similar, with smaller numbers and I also feel over my head...

Didn't mean to get personal.  My point was I think we'd all do it again just for the privilege of being able to go to the beach when we have the time.

I truly believe everyone here is blessed to be able to do what we do where we do it.  Santa cruz, Mendo, Pinole, San Leandro, Salinas and all points NCKA hail from are paradises, especially when you look at how others are living.

Being able to hit the beach anytime, in a nice area is priceless! i LOVE it here.

Scary what's is going on in south africa, shocked to see how some of those people have to live.
