anyone use these?    http://www.thelongfin.com/jax-jigs.html
I use to use these all the time, they work great. Haven't seen them around for a while.
I forgot what they were called, but found them on line. This is the best price I've found. Just ordered a dozen :smt003

JAX are my favorite but you can't get the small ones anymore.  My last trip to So-Cal I bought out Anglers Den of all the 2.5oz, made a bondo mold and started pouring them myself.   They work killer.  :smt002

Here are a couple of the ones I made

Nice looking jigs - did you powder coat or airbrush?  also, how does the bondo hold up to pouring lead?

Didn't use my airbrush or powder coat, figured they are rockcod jigs and they are going to get beat up and lost in the rocks, not worth the time to paint like I do my wooden lures.  I just used good ol spray paint then a few coats of clear.  They maintain the finish just as good as the originals after bouncing the rocky bottom and are easy to make.  :smt002
The bondo works well, the only thing I would do different next time is make the mold thicker so it does not get as hot after pouring a dozen jigs.

I've used them in the past, I am talking over 12 years ago.  I think Virg's Landing had a booth at Sportsman Expo in San Mateo and were selling them so I bought a bunch.  The one's I got had a cheap paint job which scratched of easily.
After a few trips and if it doesn't get snagged, all the paint was gone.
The lead was also too soft so the bottom part which is pounding the bottom would get flat.

I used them a lot when Cordell Banks was open.  The big Boccacio seem to favor them compared to the other species.
My personal preference are the SRMO chrome diamond bars:
http://www.srmo.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=DIAMOND_JIGS

They come in 3 packs, the chrome finish doesn't come off, great price and worth my $$$.  I've using them for years with great results.

I'd like to see a pic of the bondo mold.

They sell Jax jigs at Avilla Bay at the shop at the end of the old pier. Really poor quality paint job which peels off after a year, IMO. You will end up repainting them.

Here are a couple of the ones I made
those look great :smt007 I might give that a try.
I also like the heavier ones, but that extra buck or two hurts all the more when you get hung up. And I get hung up alot :smt013
Surf Hunter, did you cast the jig mold upside down on a board. Or set the jig on top? I think I saw a thread on it.

Try replacing the treble with a single hook, and you will probably get less hangups.  Either that or try the 1/0 Mustad bronze trebles, which i'm told you can break off if your using a decent lb line.

Thank's for the tip Al
Speaking of home made lures. I found this post by Erick G. on the Humboldt Tuna Club. http://humboldttuna.com/smf/index.php?topic=546.0

It looks pretty cool

not sure what you are asking, but all I did was get a box that was about 3" deep and around 1.5" bigger then the jig itself, poured it half full of mixed bondo (used 1/2 the hardener) let it sit for a bit the sunk the jig 1/2 way.  Let it cure then added key holes then poured the other half of the bondo and let it cure.  Add gateway and vent then viola, one bondo mold.

Thank you Erick
That's really cool.
I promise to take care of them, and try my darndest not to loose them. I live in San Carlos so we probably will be fishing the same spots. I am a newbie, but working my way up to the good fishing areas on SMC coast, Maybe we can hook up.

The Jax jigs look a lot like the Tady Yoyo jigs.  But I think Tady smallest is 3 oz.
