I've been searching through the info, but still looking for more input. I need to get a fishfinder/gps for my T-13 angler. I like the idea of the 385ci kayak package as it includes everything needed and also has the scupper transducer, but  the 587 has a larger screen(vision isn't as good as it used to be).
Does the 587 fit under the sonar sheild? Does the scupper tranducer work with the 587?
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

Let's go fishin', and don't look back, cuz you'll never see a hearse with a kayak rack!

587ci fits like a glove but the 385 probly a little better and I dont think the screen is that different in size. maybe 1/2inch. The 385 is much cheaper. But I do love the 587ci.
Great details.

587 should fit fine, probably better than the older 500 series actually. The scupper transducer will work, but you can possibly get it cheaper by buying the 587 by itself and doing a free transducer exchange. Call humminbird to confirm the exchange is free- it should be if you buy the ff new.

It will take about two weeks and you have to pay to ship the transducer to humminbird. That's your own choice though, I dont remember the price difference between the combo and the regular.

I have a 383 and I see it fine, but I do have young eyes. The 587 will have better detail since it has a higher resolution.  It might also draw more battery so you should look that up if it may affect you.

One more thing, make sure to double check your measurement before you install.  There are  some threads out there for t13 installs too

Al, I may need your help as well :) I'm having some funny issues with my 385. My sonar image disappears at times and reaapears wrong depth reading. I'm assuming it's my transducer.

If so, do you recommend having the transducer through the scupper instead on having it mounted inside the kayak?

I'll be at mbk Sunday; I shall see you then my brother! :D

Al, thanks for the offer to help with the install. I;m also interested like Daniel, about the transducer, do you prefer the standard hockey puck style mounted inside, or the scupper type? I think I can buy the combo with either type.

Well, I'm partial to the thru-hull mount vs the scupper plug espeically since I can't do it on my Hobie  :smt044  Though I've sold my Trident 15, I still did a puck mount on the inside, since it only had two scupper plugs.  If you do choose to do a scupper mount, take a look at some of the mods people came up with to allow drainage still.  But, even with those mods, understand that you have decresed drainage and it could lead to swamping in the wrong conditions.
