IRVINE, Calif. (KABC) -- A local kayaker is speaking out after a great white shark goes on the attack.

Duane Strosaker said he was five miles off Gaviota State Park when the 15-foot shark rose out of the water and bit down on his tiny boat.

"It's head was huge and it bit down and it held onto me for about 10 to 15 seconds," he said. "I was actually screaming like a little girl."

Strosaker wasn't hurt in the attack, but his kayak suffered a few puncture wounds.

Hey Mooch, You been fishing down south under an alias?  :smt005

A few words I never want to hear on the radio again, "kayaker down!!!" followed by "attacked by a great white shark!!!". The whole thing seemed so surreal, all I can say is Adam is a badass, it didn't even seem to faze him. I'm sure I would have shat myself.

I got a short vid of Adam telling the story after we got out. If he's cool with it I"ll post it.

Oh, and Don, get a radio!

I guess the paint job on the bottom didn't work ??

I was thinking of doing the paint job, or buying the decals that they sell- but I guess that's out the door now.

I even thought about painting the pattern of an orca, but I'm having second thoughts about that too.

Ditto, ditto.  :smt012

That was definately quite the day.  Im with Chevy Chad, Adam's voice on the radio was the most surreal thing I'll remember forever.  He really kept his wits about him though, and handled the ordeal with calm.  He's a seasoned vet and it showed.
God bless hobies and their quick response times!! :smt003 Im not goin out there again without two hobie guys for backup :smt003  Adam bought the bean yesterday, and he paid the landlord in full.  If you dont have a radio yet, get one now!!! That was some scary S#!%!!!

The news about this incident was very unsettling for sure. To see Adam telling his story, relating it in his mostly normal fashion is reassuring. Adam is one bad-*ss waterman, no doubt.

Glad to hear you're OK Adam. Boy my heart sank when I heard the news that a
kayaker was attacked by a shark at the Bean. Thanks for sharing the video Chad.
You can borrow my T13 till you get your kayak repaired bro. Just let me know.

Adam~
I have a yum yum yellow P15 you can use until yours is back in business.
The bottom is painted and everything.
It's all yours if you need a loaner. It's pretty much became an extra ever since I went to the dark side.

+1 on Adam being a badass waterman.
I have no doubt he will take this whole situation in.....and then keep on doing what he loves.....kayakfishing.  :smt008
It may be a little hard to get back on the bodyboard though.  :smt005

Major props to the two hobie anglers, ChevyD, and MBP for helping Adam out & in. I'm sure it was a good thing to have help OTW when it all went down.  :smt001
