I'll be heading up to Lake Almanor next weekend and was looking for any tips on nice places to camp.  I've done the google search, seems like a ton of choices and was hoping someone could help narrow them down.  Will have wife/kids, yaks...possibly taking up my boat.

Thanks!

On the west shore, Rocky Point campground south of Prattville is nice and has sites OTW.  There is also a US Forest Service campground just north of Prattville that is nice.

There are public launches for the PB at Canyon Dam juts south of Rocky Point and the campground, and also at the USFS campground.

There are trailer parks/resorts near Prattville with boat docks but I'm not at all familiar with their operations.

I've stayed at a campsite on the north end of the lake just off 36 the campsite has a small dock and the actual tent campsite we used was exposed to afternoon winds (Really bad) it has camper hookup.  Sorry I can't recall the campsites name at this moment.

Thanks for the info guys.  I had heard the winds get ripping pretty good in the afternoons.  North Shore campground was one I was thinking about, sounds like it may be the one CG mentioned.  $35/night, pretty steep for a tent site!

Yeah, North Shore Campground's been getting hit by the afternoon winds just about every day.  Plus it's located in one of the "swampier" areas of the lake (ie bugs).

There's also two campgrounds at Butt Lake, which is only 4 miles southwest of Almanor.  They're often not as crowded as the ones on Almanor.

Good to know, looks like we'll be winging it on the west side!
