Heya from Santa Cruz-
Hope everyones enjoying the winter season :smt001
I'm headed down to Costa Rica for a month and a half this winter, and plan on doing a bit of kayakfishing (and surfing, freediving, backpacking, etc). Probably in the estuaries and nearshore. Any advice on tackle, lures, and extra equipment would be much appreciated! I'll be traveling light.
Peace
Brendan

Where will you be, east(caribbean) or west(pacific) coast?   They are really different.  I believe that on the east coast winter is time for tarpon.  The west coast is similar to CA- Rocky shore, deep blue water. There are roosterfish to be had on the west coast- just not sure what time of year.

Brendan, bring yourself some wire and learn to do that haywire twist.
bunch of loose wraps, then some tight ones, make a "handle" twist to
break it off, don't cut it.  sometimes with barracuda or sierra, you
can lose a lot of lures without a little bit of wire.

that might be one thing you would forget being a california fisherman and
the only time in my life I'll ever get to suggest something to a fisherman
of your caliber.

take your camea and post some pictures for us old non-travelling types!

Next summer you have to help me catch a salmon.

Roosterfishing is excellent year round.  If you're travelling extra light, you might do as the locals and just bring a handline!!!  Let me know if you're looking for specific information about the Tamarindo area.  I've been there 4-5 times.  And if you get a chance, get offshore for a day of sailfishing.  The sailfishing in Costa Rica is as good as it gets.
