Fishing was slow, caught one grass cod and no halibut bites after 4 hrs on the water.
I was fishing near another fellow on a yak, didnt get his name. All of a sudden there was a big caplunk behind me. At first I thought it was a kamikaze pelican diving into a bait ball. A minute later, another splash to my left, thats weird. Then we realized that someone was on the cliff which was a good 300 to 400 yards away and they were launching big ass rocks at us with some kind of giant sling shot. :smt011 NOT FUNNY AT ALL
They were doing there best to take one of us out. I paddled over towards the beach to get a better look at where exactly the idiots were hidding. I saw 3 silouttes run out of the Eucalyptus grove when I pulled out my phone to call 911. The cops were looking for them but I think they were long gone.

So heads up to anyone fishing there incase they try this stupid stunt again. Call 911 right away !

tight lines, aka-Kimo

:smt011  Those A holes may have thought they were being "funny"  What they may not be smart enough to realize is what they were doing is attempted murder. It's no different than a freeway sniper. Basic physics say that a rock slung from a height - if it hits you in the head - you're dead. If you somehow you are'nt killed you're unconscious and at risk of drowning. I hope the Cops can be talked into talking to the neighbors to see if they know these people or to put up flyers to alert the area.

Many thanks for the warning !!!!
May be you or a moderator should post this on other threads as with this new posting change many NCKAers are'nt used to regularly checking this public forum.

That's why I dread summer in a way.  Provide people unrestricted free time, some will find the worst ways to occupy themselves.  Better luck next time a,k.  that's really awful and scary

I spoke to the officer that took the call for this incident. She took it very seriously. Unfortunately they were no where to be found. I figured they hightailed it when they saw me get on my cellphone. Hopefully they won't ever try it again.      A-K

Mr A-K, thank you for this serious information. My friend and I were there kayak fishing that same day. There were 5 kayak fishermen on the water, and I was wondering/assuming that some must be members of this great site :)

As for the incident, I have to say that I am quite angered by the thought that some punks had the audacity to sling shot rocks at vulnerable people enjoying/minding their own businesses. My buddy and I were yak fishing where the cliff ends/beach begins for a bit. Luckily, we weren't hit by them!! However I did notice a big splash not too far from where we were fishing, that I was assuming was either a pelican or sea lion. Gosh, I hope it was that rather than a rock.

I am glad that all were safe from possible serious dangers if a rock had hit anyone. Thank you for sharing this info with us all, and I myself will keep an eye out on stuff like this whenever I do go out again.

I had a bad experience a few years ago with kids on summer break.  After attending a party at friends house in San Jose, I notice my back windshield was smashed.  My friend later told me that their whole street was vandalized. Alot of cars were damaged by a group of high school kids that are out of school.  None of them were caught and it sucks being on the receiving end of idiots doing stupid things.

I can't help but wonder if the rock chuckers are the same bunch that has been throwing rocks & construction debris at pedestrians on west cliff lately.
Maybe its just a copycat thing.
Attempted murder? Absolutely.

Thanks for the heads up aka-Kimo,

Hopefully this is an isolated incident or they catch the punks before they hurt someone. I fish in the Capitola/NB area on weekends and will keep an eye out, inform the locals that I know and call 911 if I see anything.

Thanks again,
Dean

why do you say they are surfers?  No one surfs at New Brighton anyway.........punks?  yeah.  Surfers....? no real reason to think so.

Maybe we'll have to start wearing those whitewater helmets to Fish NB.  Or, post Big Jim with my bat gaff up in the eucalyptus grove while we fish....heh heh....
