Congrats Erik,

You should post a link on PFiC's OT board. They had that Pt. Pinole Sturgeon Derby and everyone there came away w/ a BIG SKUNK!

I shamelessly parked my yak on your anchor spot and missed a pump, caught a striper and broke off on another striper. That's a helluva spot.

Chuck, make sure you don't post it for any lurkers out there. Hate to hear you guys go out next time to find a PB flotilla out there!

Anyways, it was great fishing w/ you guys! That was probably my last kayak outing for the year as well as the bay arreas.  I was happy for the comaraderie, the fish and seeing the sturgeon pot won by the King of Sturgeon himself.

Your catch was simply too epic to stay out of print.  How much are you charging to sign copies?

I'm curious about the snare. I know you can't gaff a Dino but can't you lip-grip one? :smt017 I know they have lip-grippers that are made for fish 80 lbs. plus.

I know I should have made it to the seminar but I've been rrreallly busy HO HO HO!!! :santa:

Dino's are very strong, if you have ever caught a small shark multiply that by a bunch. They also don't really have a lip for the lipper to catch on. Anything keeper size or larger can reek real havoc inside a boat in a kayak you need to be really careful. Don't forgot about those 2  7/0 razor sharps hooks in his mouth getting one of those in your hand with the other still in the dino would not feel good. I would not attempt to lip one but I have grabbed shakers by the tail. Never caught one from a kayak but lots from a small P/B I would go with the snare it seems like Erik has the system down to a science.

I'll grab a fish by the gills if it's under about 50 to 55 inches or so.  Anything longer than that you're much safer using the snare.  Mick is right in that the main reason you wouldn't lip them is because of those two ultrasharp hooks hanging out of the mouth.  Also, their mouth would be a little awkward to grab being oriented like it is...

Erik....you should change your hat to a green "John Deer" truck drivers cap....remove the sleeve from your blue wind breaker and put a jail house tatoo on your arm saying  "Dino Slayer"  :smt002

Erik,

Congrats on that monster fish of yours.  As for the avatar, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with a little animation in mine.  But, I don't know I would have chosen to have my fish try and kiss me every other second.

the new avatar really speaks to me.  :smt003

dude, I still want to know about the 65lb braid.  Is it a case of "why not"
or for abrasion etc? Or it just fits on the reel better and it's easier to tie
knots with thicker stuff? After all that talk about max drag being pretty
low on our reels and from a non-anchored kayak it seems lower test braid
could do the job. I'm worried now that my previous question looks like some
kind of challenge, but it's not I'm really just interested in the choices you
make when you go fishing because you are a successful fisherman.

I remember the other stuff: rockfishing: 20lb momoi mono. no leader just
cause it's a hassle.  see, I've been studying your comments.

so why the 65lb braid in this case. how'd you pick that size?

Best ever.....on any message board I've seen........

bsteves, giving a sturgie some "sugar" ensures future success......the pic on page 1 of the fish sitting in the coqpit with its head buried....well..........you know, does look a little shady though :smt003
