Here is a recap of the 2008 trips:

Trip # 1

With a good travel day down to San Benitos Island, with the spearos having good success hook and line fishing for Dorado, Yellowtail, and Tuna, we arrived at the islands to find good conditions.  The first day at the islands treated the divers to 40 foot visibility, and 67 degree water temperatures.  With the first stop being the famed Lunker Rock, the spearos took many fine Yellowtail.  A few WSB were taken as with a 38 pounder taken by Bob Bauchman.  On the second day visibility decreased and it was decided that the group would try their hand at Cedros Island.  Conditions were better at Cedros and the quality of fish take was also better, with Yellowtail to 35 pounds.

After spending a day exploring Cedros Island with encounters of Black Sea Bass and Gulf Grouper, the group traveled back to San Benitos to finish the trip with high hopes for better conditions.  For the remainder areas around San Benitos Island were explored, with one spearo taking a 15 fish limit of Yellowtail, along with many quality White Sea Bass being taken as well.  All in all it was a good trip, with many divers taking their personal best Yellowtail.

Trip #2

The second trip departed San Diego with great expectations for another quality experience with Bodega Bay Pro Dive.  After picking up a mixed bag of fish on the way down, hook and line fishing, the spearos arrived at San Benitos Island to find the off colored water found the previous week was still present.  After doing a little exploring around San Benitos to find better water conditions, it was decided to go to Cedros Island to explore.

Cedros did not disappoint, with encounter with Giant White See Bass to 90 pounds, with many spearos landing their first White Sea Bass ever.  Joe Newman landed his personal best Yellowtail, with a huge 53 pounder.  We look forward to spending more time at Cedros Island in future trips as these two exploratory  trips have shown there are big fish at the Island.
