will do, her attitude is great.  Instead of waiting for her appointment at MD Andersons, she and my step dad flew to Florida to hang with some friends at a beach house for this week.

I was just diagnosed with nasopharyngeal carcinoma, aka "cantonese cancer".  Tumor in the nasal passage above the throat.  I will receive chemo and radiation for treatment.

Prognosis is good.. looking forward to kicking it and getting back to normal.

tell us more marv...what made you feel that something was wrong?  at what point did you decide to go to the doctor?  was there any type of symptom that made you think...i need to go to the doctor now!

and of course i'm happy to hear that it is a cancer with a well known treatment plan rather than something more serious (you had me REALLY worried there last week), and i'll help out with whatever you need buddy..

i just can't quit you

Marv,

Praying for you to have a speedy recovery... hang tough! You are strong(albeit maybe a little soft in the waistline area the last time i saw you :smt008).

I'm going to the gym now for some long overdue exercise and a swim. Don't forget about exercise peoples! Exercise helps the body and mind to heal.

I saw a Dermatologist and got a passing grade luckily on Wednesday.  He told me to use sunblock as an aftershave in the morning.  I asked if is shound come back in another 3 years and said, "No way.  Come back each year."
My prayers are towards you all and your families that are in the battle.
Tight lines.
I am sending you out as sheep among wolves.
Be as wary as serpents and gentle as doves.

I had been feeling crappy for a while - fatigued, nasal/sinus congestion. . then I noticed my lymph nodes on my neck were enlarging, and i was getting random nose bleeds = time to see the doc.  The docs ordered a biopsy on the lymph nodes on my neck, a chest x-ray, and bloodwork, and ultrasound to check thyroid.  They didn't mess around.

The lymph node biopsy results came back positive for nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells.  I was then referred to the ear/nose/throat specialist.  The bloodwork was good, normal blood cell counts, normal renal function.  Chest x-ray was good - no lung cancer, thyroid was OK.  The ENT Dr. explained what was happening and they were going to get me back on my feet and be with me all the way.  The Dr. stuck a camera in my nose to see the tumor, and then performed a biopsy on it.   She estimated 7 weeks for treatment - chemo and radiation.

I just had a MRI on my head/neck today, and will have a followup appointment with the ENT on thursday.

Thanks everyone for your support.  :-)

I was taken care of at the urgent care clinic, and ENT clinic at SF general hospital.  Cancer treatment will be at UCSF med center.
