Well like planned, me and christina headed up berryessa friday evening and got their around 6:30pm at the new open Chaparral campgrounds @ putah creek. Headed out that evening and while trying to show her how to fish for bass and in the middle of the lesson, i hook up! It was funnier than $&^t. Fish came jumping out of the water and threw the hook! That was it for the evening. Tried for catfish as well and had a few bites as well but no hookups! woke up early sat. to get an early chase on the kokes, but woke up to Very windy conditions and white caps! I had rollers coming over the yak at times while trying to troll! about an hour of that i said the hell with this and headed in! We were back at camp by 8:00am! Wind never died. Decided to pack up and do some hiking and sight seeing instead! As for the News...Berryessa is indeed getting back on its feet with more than 1 resort opening back up for boat launching and camping! Where we stayed, their charge $15 a night w/ a two night minumum. As i could see, they had plenty of tent sites and rv and camper sites there. Nothing was really that close to the water but the spot we got was just 30 or so yards from the water and not really that far with a pretty good view and our own little cove! A very large boat ramp w/ docks as well! They said and claim to have a store opening up their soon but never seen it. I think most of these resorts are still in the works and are still trying to get things to how they want it! But keep in mind theres spanish flat just down the road where they have a grocery store and bait if u needed. I will be definelty coming back soon and will keep you guys updated with more as summer comes along!....I'm also strongly thinking and planning w/makin it count(gary) to Host and setup the 1st Ever Kokanee and King salmon derby here at berry. Im thinkin mid july when the kokes are pretty much at their largest 18-21in. here. Im new to this so if anybody has any good ideas on how to set-up and run such an event w/out putting NCKA in jeporady of anything please come forward and pm me. I have a good idea on when and where and with a good BBQ plan afterwards, its just getting prizes and rewards and maybe some sponsers! Its in the works but definelty doable i think! Please any info would help thanks.

Ricci, download a copy of Yakhopper's waiver and modify it for your July tournament.

Nice report! I plan on hitting this area soon myself. Did you check out any of the other campgrounds? Does Putah have a beach to hang out at?
thanks

haha yes she has a older sister but unless you have Like a Million bucks$$$ and like good looks but no brains and worth shit, type of a girl then good luck! Cause thats what her sister is and likes!.....I wasnt able to see the other campgrounds at berry or did i notice a beach at the chaparral campground but at oak shores day use area below putah creek from where i was camped at, they have a HUGE beach swimming area, with a big parking lot bbq pits, Cazebos, a paved ramp for launching kayaks. Plenty of shade and trees and bathrooms not porta-potties! U could also camp their as well but they charge $30 a night w/ a 2 night minumum as well! This would be the place to hold the tournament. I'll pm yakhopper for advice and for his wavier forms so i could edit them! thanks howard

Hi Ricci - if time is short this year to organize a more formal tourney by July, you could always just post it up as an informal "Fish-n-Chill" for this year.  If you want a little more friendly competition could always go with a MBF gig or minor prizes. Then next year you would have more time to build a formal event.

Just another option to consider.  Thanks for taking the lead on this.

Take care - John

you know what your right john, maybe a Fish-n-chill would be a lil more appropiate due to the timing on this one! A warm-up i would say until next year is probably the better way to on this....thanks john. If and when this goes down this july, ill still make sure to have it very oranganized, thought out, a good bbq and some prizes to boot anywayz! ill plan ahead more on this and will soon post something so look forward guys to this event!

Hey FW916!

Good to see you at ARW!

I like the Berryessa idea.

Went to Oak Shores a few weeks ago.

Nice camping with some sites close to launching.

You have to check in at the little trailer to the left the entrance to Oak Shores.

I believe they only let hand-launchers and campers in.

New paved cart path to the main hand launch area.

"Nice" newer restrooms.

Huge area around islands designated 5mph or Electric trolling motors only.

I fished there for about 2 hours, finally hooking a nice Landlocked King on a Shad style crankbait - which wriggled free at the yak as I fumbled for my camera!

Check it out if you are around the Berry sometime.

To bad about the wind but nice pics anyways. I've never been to Berryessa and or fish for Koke either. I'd be stoked to go to a Fish-n-Chill up there.
