Ok guys, we now have a kayak hauling boat, so here's the trip details. Two trips, one in the bush and one based from town.

Sept 2 - Sept 6  Remote trip

- Arrive Ketchikan Saturday 9/2. Leave early 9/3 for a 2 or 3 hour boat ride to our destination. Set up camp and fish, fish, fish. Return to town late on 9/6 which gives us four full days and three nights out there. Daylight runs well into the evening remember. We will have the boat for big water crossings and to get to different spots, but most everything will be done by kayak, like fishing, crabbing, gathering firewood, etc. The primary destination is the Cholmondeley Sound area on the inside edge of Prince of Wales island. We'll be fishing for salmon, as well as halibut, lingcod, red snapper, and all the other fishies down there.

- KKF will provide the captain, boat, kayaks, paddles, PFD's, gaffs, pliers, cook stoves, tents, tarps, utensils, and most food. You will be catching/gathering food every day also.

- You will need to provide your accomodations on 9/2 and 9/6, as well as snack foods, sleeping bag, fishing rods/reels, small tackle box, clothes, and personal items. You will be landing/filleting your own fish, and helping with cooking, fires, and what-not. So this is not a completely catered trip, but one that allows you to experience what its really like to live off the land. You'll be a hunter/gatherer for a few days in the Alaskan wild, by kayak.

- Cost is $700 per person ($175 per day, which is our normal 4 hour half day trip rate). I think that's a really fair price. That covers the captain, boat, and all the gear listed above. We have room for 6 people. I can help with accomodations, and if a group of you are coming you could just get a cabin for the nights you'll be in town. If you stay a day or two later we rent rigged kayaks for $75 a day. Ground transportation is provided and there's great fishing right there.

- The targeted area has many islands, pinnacles, and protected coves to get out of weather. The outer edge has good shoreline, and Skin Island, a known hot spot. There's good potential for whales, bears, sea lions, and who knows what else. Eagles are always around and don't mind picking up a rockfish just feet from your kayak. We plan on crabbing and shrimping. This will be a unique tirp, with experiences you just can't get anywhere else. There's just no feeling like being out there living off the land, in a kayak. For those unaware, SE Alaska is dense rainforest that comes right to the waters edge. Tides can be as much as 22 feet high to low. It can rain a lot and you should be prepared for that.

Sept 9 - Sept 13  Day trips based from town

- KKF has set these dates aside for day trips using the boat as a mother ship. We can get to a  lot of different spots this way.

- You can make your own schedule so you can kayak fish and still do all the stuff there is to do in town and on this island. That means your spouses will be happy too. In town there are endless tours, shopping, float plane trips to the Misty Fjords, hiking trails, museums, totem parks, etc, etc.

- Day trips with the mother ship run $225 per person, with a $450 minimum to take the boat out. If there's a group the price comes down. Half day guided trips from shore are $175 per, and rigged kayak rentals are $75 a day, including transportation. Again, there's great fishing right outside the marina for Cohos and halibut.

Please let me know if you are interested, if you need any local info, or any questions you have.

Thanks!
Howard McKim

I agree... but I'm afraid I'm in Stuart's camp... it would take an act of God for me to be able to get away for that one.  (not that I'm complaining :smt002)

I more apt to take the second option as well. There is a slight double booking going on which meight cause you (howard) to give another day option. the corresponds with the annual trip that Stu and Fred and many other are already making plans for to stillwater. I am sure those that attended last year won't miss that trip for anything. Howard. is there another weekend option that might work?

Pencil me in for the first option.  When would you need a solid commitment ($$)?  How many minimum to make this a go / how many maximum?

What an incredible offer you are making for us, Howard.  Please count Randy and me in for option #1.  I am so excited, it feels just like Christmas.......oh yeah, it is............ :smt003

Awesome visions you're providing here, Howard!  This sounds like a fantasy trip for anyone on this board.

I'm in for summer '07.  Trip should be perfected by then, and maybe I'll have the WAF built up...   :smt001

For the remote trip the minimum is 4, maximum 6. For remote trips I take a $100 deposit, with the balance due 14 days before departure. You don't have to pay the deposit right now, but after the new year would be good so I really know who is in and can plan accordingly.

For day trips- I run these all summer.  My commitment to Royal Carribean is basically Thurs and Friday every week. Other than that it is wide open right now, so if you're looking to stay in town you have basically the whole summer to choose from. There will be at least two other remote trips but I haven't set the dates yet. I want to fill this one first.

For the day trip options please let me know as soon as you can, as cruise ship passengers will start filling the slots pretty quickly. We have ships here every single day so I need to know what days to block out, or add to, for your needs.

For those of you wanting to reserve please send me a private email to trips@yakfishalaska.com with your contact info. There is also a reservations form on my web site you can submit.

I forgot to mention fishing licenses, which I sell, or preferably you can go ahead and get online at http://www.admin.adfg.state.ak.us/license/

Thanks for the interest!

Thank you for the first offering, Howard.  Looking at the weather history, this looks a lot like our area........except the ling cod will be bigger..... :smt007
