My daughter is having a baby in August, 1st Grandbaby, so I went down to San Diego for her baby shower this weekend.
Had to fish too, so my son-in-law and his buddy took me out on Mission Bay to see what we could hook up with there. We launched at about 7:30 with a bunch of other boats who headed out to sea, where I'm sure they had better luck. Because these two guys have not had much boating experience, they were afraid to go out. More on that later. . .

Anyways we got bait at the dock and headed to a bridge and got set up behind one of the piers. Three guys in a bass boat were set up at another so I got us set up like them. Got all the gear ready, baited up and threw out. We all got shredded with no real takers until we were almost out of bait, then tap tap on the buddies rod. He was all thumbs with the bait caster, so I quickly took over, hooked the fish and quickly gave the rod to him. He got it in pretty quickly, his first hali ever and was the days hero. We had to go home early to attend the baby shower so ended by 11am. Not a very long day.

About the ocean there. . . It's flat most of the time. My daughter and I drove out to La Jolla to see if any yakers were out fishing, but none were visible. However there were about thirty or so recreational yakers out. Nice. Man I wish it looked like that here more. Got to get back down there and try it out around the kelp beds. Looks really good.

Granulation's on the grandbaby!!!!!! Your son-in law son sounds like my Father in-law, he wouldn't take his boat out of the bay (Humboldt) Not even towards the mouth. He was scared of the Ocean.
