...the very first kayak you bought?

I know there are a few that still do...

* John / jdyak still paddles his Prowler 15 (I believe he's had it since 2003)
* Adam / Fishunter still paddles his Prowler 13.....

Anyone else out there? What kind of kayak is it? And how long have you been paddling it?

...just curious.

Oh GOD no!!
My very first kayak I bought used. It was called a Salish made by Pacific Northwest Design; WAY before SOT kayaks and kayak fishing were mainstream.
Since you really couldn't go out and comparison paddle anything there was really no way to know if it was a decent kayak or not.
It was a tandem. Dagger ended up buying the company.
I didn't realize what a barge I was paddling until Wilderness Systems came out with their Tarpon 16. What a WORLD of difference.
I think I am kayak #10 now.

OK Malibu Two XL for 3 years.

Yes. WS Freedom 15. I kept it for the day I actually race in Eppie's. Wasn't the most stable but fast as hell.

No for me. My first kayak was a yukon tour by Prijon in 1995. The boat was great for camping with tons of gear, but not much good in the surf. I did catch some salmon from it in AK, and slayed a few calicos from it in SoCal, but I ended up selling it to a BASK'er when I moved up here to Santa Cruz in 2000.

With the money from the boat sale I bought two Dagger Cayman SOT's from Kayak Connection for a screamin' deal (I guess no one else liked that boat). I sold one to the IT guy from my office round about 2002.

I kept one of the Caymans & fished it all over the Cali coast until I upgraded to the Tarpon in 2005. I DO still have the Cayman stashed under the porch. It's a slow boat, but a good loaner/beginner boat.

Yep, a Malibu Pro-Explorer that I got off eBay about 9 years ago.  I just can't let it go, it's been from Shelter Cove to Eagle Lake, Lower Klamath to San Diego, and hit about every body of water in between...if only this boat could talk...the stories it could tell!  Started out blue, received the camo makeover last year.

It may not be the fastest thing on the water, but it will get me there everytime, with all of my crap and return me home without a doubt.

Thankfully no!   My first boat was a divorce boat that my wife and I picked up at a demo day about 15 yrs ago.  Got it so that we could take our daughter out with (and the dog of course).   That lasted a couple years until the daughter was able to paddle her own so we over a year or so phased out of that one and each had a rec touring yak.    I very rarely fished from mine tho because it was a pita, .. then I found this site..  :smt006

... and the touring yak was no more!   Wife and daughter still paddle theirs tho.

Sometimes, it's an Islander Festiva tandem (from sportmart in '02).  I use it to paddle rivers and lakes with the kids, and it is a loaner for the ocean.

I ended up selling it to Joe / Skyboy who moved to Idaho (and is an active member of NWKA).
