I am thinking of doing a trip from La Grange to Berkeley via the Tuolumne river, Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, San Francisco Bay.It will be a total of about 170 miles or 19 miles per day. The river part is no problem. Are the bays doable on a sit on top? If I stick to the outgoing tides and slack tides, and sleep or fish on the incoming tides, does this seem doable?? It will be a 9 day trip at the end of June. Tips, opinions suggestions will be appreciated. I am open to just doing La Grange to the Delta if the bays are deemed to dangerous, but I do have a kitchen pass for this trip and my wife says sounds like a great trip for me!!

Dave I think the trip is doable. I've been thinking about it too, starting in fresno on the sj.

Time the tides and get good wind conditions and the bays are not a problem you can't handle. The biggest water with strongest current is in suisun near mothball fleet.  Also you should have a way to charge your gps battery as the delta is quite a maze. And plan your stops well.  Wind and boat traffic are probably your two biggest concerns.  Make that f n d visible and keep your vhf charged and monitor ch 1 too! Good luck if you do it!

Thats amazing!! Cant wait to see the report..

Look into a Lipo battery and charger... They last a long time and are perfect for this trip...

With the right size lipo, you may not need to charge!

GOOD LUCK!

Here is an aticle that appeared in the local paper a few months back, about making the trip from knights ferry to the bay.  In this case, the trip was not done on consecutive day.   Typically they only went one day out of the week, they would paddle as far as they could, then pick up the following week where they left off.

There is also the "Tuolumne River trust" That has done a similiar event to raise awareness

It looks doable and something I would like to try when I have more time off.
