For the organizer of a kayak fishing tournament to say that kayaks can compete with the range, speed and number of people fishing from the same vessel, he must have lost his mind somewhere. Now you Pbers dont even think of showing up at Albion! :smt044 :smt044

that's a bummer.

I had figured it was a misprint. I had considered attending this since it's a home court event for me and I really like Kayak Connection, but I prefer it when all the watercraft are basically on a level field.
 Fishing with PB's? no thanks.

I was going to participate because of home waters and I support Mark and Margaret, but I don't play well with PB'er's...

ditto....out for me.

Considering the possible target species PB'ers have a MASSIVE leg up being able to cover more water

A lake might be a more even ground for a yakers vs PB's, but the ocean seems unfair.  I'm sure they just want to boost participation though, but since they are "Kayak Connection", I don't understand why they would invite the power boats too.   Plus im not crazy about fishing in Moss anyway...

Wow , I guess I was wrong a kayak fishing derby can include powerboats. I guess my first plans on heading up to Ocean Cove for the opener are back on the calender.

Yeah, that's weird. So it's like a fishing derby that allows kayaks to enter & compete [ahhh...how cute]. Anybody need a deckhand? Oh, and does the 1st place boat crew win a new Grady White or something?

More updates on the Kayak Connection Derby at Moss Landing Launch ramp 7 AM June 19.
The MBSTP pen at the Santa Cruz Harbor is being dismantled today.  Posters for the Derby are being displayed on the Santa Cruz and Moss Landing Harbors are posted at each dock entrance.  10 launch passes have been donated by these harbors.  The BBQ entries are going great with many talented teams signing up to provide a fine afternoon of eating. Promoted this event on the Allen Bushnell radio fishing show show last night.
But still no entries for the fishing contest.  Maybe people are waiting for Sunday when the donation to the Monterey Bay Salmon and Trout restoration Project entry fee goes up to $35.
If someone signs up for this contest they will be making out like a bandit.  Reminds me when I first started putting on fishing contests 15 years ago.  For several years there was only one person who kayak fished in a Lobo Kiwi Kayak Bill Seaman.  Each year he walked away with several $1000's worth of swag catching rock fish off Monterey.  Hmm maybe I should just donate directly to the MBSTP a organization that benefits more catching in Monterey Bay and save myself alot of work.

Just printed out 2 posters to display in front of my shops for the Mooch paddle July 17.  Anyone who has met him should appreciate what he has done for the paddling community and what a nice guy he is.  Will spread the word to the other paddlers SUP and Recreational.

I don't know why you sound surprised.  The posts in this thread pretty much sum up why you don't have any participants - The masses have spoke .

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what you're doing (I supported the years at Loch Lomond) and who it benefits, but the masses don't care to compete against PBs.

The BBQ Challenge has been canceled.  Due to the workload I am downsizing this event to only have the fishing contest and $5 hamburgers fixed your way with all the fixins.  So remember no matter what legal size fish you catch bring them to the awards ceremony and we may have something great for you.  There are also lots of great places to eat nearby if your vegetarian or something.  Thanks for all the positive stoke out there and all you Whiners go sit on the sea lion dock and breath deeply.
See you Saturday

You get some feedback on your tournament and this is how you respond?  Really?   :smt009
