rogue wave.

well it's observed statistics that every hour a wave double the average height comes in.

you sit on a surfboard for an hour, you'll see it.  generally you take it on the
head if you've been sitting inside and picking off the smaller nuggets.

It's a lot longer for a wave triple the normal height, but it does happen.

So you could get taken out alan, but I have to agree, it's pretty unlikely. But I
have to say that I've considered wearing a wetsuit on a boat. that way, I get
washed off, I'm floating to shore. that's a little paranoid, even for me.

waves break in water 1.5 times their height, so if you sit in 50 feet of water,
you need a 35 foot swell or something. that's a freaking big wave. Can you deploy
the anchor and prevent ending up in 20 feet of water in the event of engine
failure? probably.

the bassist for loverboy got ripped off his yacht off Ocean Beach by a 25footer,
right? 4 miles out, south channel. He held onto the wheel reel tight. so tight
that the wheel ripped off. doh.

I guess they never found him.
