Had business to take care of at the Cove today and got to fish for two hours before getting home to pick up the kids.  There were some salmon being caught and not too far out or deep - just not by me or Dan the Boogieman who went out with me.  The water was really really nice - if we get anything remotely similar next week we'll be in heaven.  I caught a 19" black trolling the chove - I'm considering just fishing that for the tournee.  I could see the rockfish on the finder and was trying to stay above them - 60' of water and I was at 30-40 pulls.  I only caught the one - turns out those who caught some salmon were getting on the bottom and quite a few shakers were caught (probably quite a few rockies and lings too).  Once the 15th hits it's game on for whatever slams your bait down there!

Looks like a great launch!!!

That's a big part of the draw for all of us yakkers at Shelter Cove - the launch is one of the easiest you'll find anywhere.  As a matter of fact, it was flat enough yesterday to launch in front of The Tides - some folks did that last year - it saves about a mile or more of paddling, roundtrip from the launch to the fishing grounds.  I'm getting ahead of myself and sending a mixed message though.  The launch is the safest place to get on and back off of the ocean - we HOPE it's calm enough to launch and land in other areas like the beach at The Tides.

Right now it's looking nice, swell-wise, for tournee day.  We'll keep an eye on it through the week, of course.   :smt007

Black Ab is one of the hardest working fisherman I know of.  He frequently calls me up and says things like "hey, lets drive 2hours down to Shelter Cove and paddle 7 or 8 miles for a low probability chance at an early Salmon".  I'm far too lazy.  I will try for Salmon once I know I can hit up the rockfish later if the salmon don't cooperate.

But that's why you have epic north coast adventures and I have a beer gut :)

Good work as always - soooo looking forward to next week!
