Some more miscellaneous fish pics.

Pic #1.  We picked up a random Jack on the troll.
Pic #2.  Trigger were present enough to keep things interesting.  The skipper wanted these for ceviche.
Pic #3.  I caught a couple puffers and a bunch of misc fish on the sabiki in the evenings on the hook.
Pic #4.  Trumpetfish are slimy!!!

hows the skip jack for eating, good stuff?

Good for Hawaiian poke, and I mean really good, but that's probably about it.  We had a lot of better fish for general eating.

On one of my tuna trips, we were catching lots of skipjack which most of the passengers turned their nose up on because it wasn't the glamour fish they were seeking. Come snack time, the cook served some delicious tuna sushi that he had seared all around with the inside still reddish. Everybody went nuts over the sushi and asked whether it was yellowfin tuna. Nope. The cook had prepared skipjack. After that, everybody who caught one was tagging it.

Are you on the other side of the island past the ferry?

We mainly fished on the west side of Isla Espiritu Santo off Isla Ballena.  We did run up to the very northern tip of Isla Espiritu but didn't find the 'tails there.  On one day we made the run down to the north tip of Cerralvo, with not much going on there for us either.  So back to Ballena we went, and as it turned out that was the hot spot for the week.  The captain wanted to run up to Isla San Francisco (or San Franciscito as he called it), but we lost a starter on one motor mid week and decided to stay put, which was a good call as we started catching 'tails.

The boat only cruised at 6-8 knots, which is perfect trolling speed.  While we had the range to run, we didn't do too much except for the day we went to Cerralvo.  But whenever we ran somewhere we put out a rapala, a couple feathers, and a cedar plug.  It didn't take long for skipjack to jump all over that, and we'd get the occational dorado and some sierra that way too.
