I fish for rock fish and halibut and was looking for feedback on the Shimano reels…the question I have is the Calcutta CTE 100GT enough real for the fish I catch…the biggest ling to date is 12 pounds on the real I currently fish…the line spec for this reel is 10/135, 12/115, 14/95

Thanks for any feedback

The Shimano reel that you have is good enough for RF & Hali (unless you hook a monster)  :smt003  I would put 20# braid line on it though.

Is there a Shimano reel you would recommend over this? I fish the small panga rod from kencor (now out of business)
Thanks!

I think the other way is strange  :smt004  I'm a lefty too Brent and it just for some reason makes more sense to me.  :smt017   For the price I have really liked my Shimano Cardiff 401A.  First one worked perfectly for two years just being rinsed after trips on the ocean.  Now it resides somewhere in Shelter Cove  :smt044  Bought another to replace it and still love it.  Then I really liked the Daiwa Luna (LH) but was a biiiiiiit more pricey and is ALSO at the bottom of Shelter Cove  :smt044  I think i'm going to give my Abu Revo Inshore a try this season on a lighter weight setup.  And I got a Abu Record 51 at the end of last year, so haven't really tested it out.  But, that all said, I'm still looking for another good reel to try  :smt003

Most Spinners are Left/Right handed reversale but not for Bait Casters.  Many manufactures make Left Handed Bait Casters and usually included the "LH" on the reel model number.

Avet makes almost all their reels in a left hand model. Shimano Curado, Calcutta and Calcutta TE all have great left hand reels. I just picked up a Curado 301 on Ebay for $200. I love this reel. Extra large line capacity, 6.2:1 retrieve, made for inshore salt. Sweet, small and powerful. With 50 lb Powerpro and a 20 lb leader, it's my new Kelp Cabbie Killer.
So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

I use a Abu garcia 6501C3 is a lefty, mine were tricked out with a power handle, and worked over by Alan Tani.  I recently came into a Penn Squidder 140 L-LH, I would like to narrow to a 146 Squidder Jr.  I know it is heavier, and not as technelogically advanced, but it is the feel of having a reel peice of history that was really "Made in America."  You can always type LH reel into ebay and see what comes up or type the Lefty model that you are looking for into an ebay search "Abu Garcia 6501"  Good Luck

Have to agree with sonny on the Shimano Tekota as being a nice upgrade for you in means of a bigger real with alot of power. I was debating between the Shimano Tekota and the Daiwa Saltist Levelwind but ended up with the Saltist and love this real to date havent fished much only dozen times. No problems yet. Its spooled with 40lb powerpro as our most of my rods if your looking to stay on the small side id go with a larger calcutta maybe a 400 if its in your price range if not the Cardiff is a great reel as well...

Calcutta 100 will be a little small for any decent rockfish.  I fish a Calcutta 201.  Left hand 200.  Works well on most fish.  90% of my fishing is the 210 or an Avet SX.  Smaller fish, and the delta plugging is the 201.  Larger fish in the salt is the Avet and bait fishing in the Delta is the SX.  Trolling the Delta is the SX and a Diawa LC27 line counter. I run 50# braid on the 201 and the SX.
