Alan:

I know this is your area of expertise so I was wondering what you think of this little rascal...http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?prod_id=SC-X105L%252fXAA

I was reading their internal BBS and it sounds like there might be some early issues, but I love the idea of this thing.  I have been looking into a cam for my digital camcorder, but this thing is sooooo much smaller. If this thing does just plain suck, do you know of anything similar out there or on the horizon?  I'd love to have one of these in baja!

Personally, I've been eyeing the Sanyo C5 with dive housing.  I plan on picking up a digital camcorder after Xmas when the prices should come down some more.  When I get into the research, I'll take notes and post my thoughts here.

Thanks.  That is a cool looking unit.  What housing were you looking at?  Can it use a POV or Bullet cam?  Look forward to your research, I am in no hurry.

Epoque EHS-500X housing ... http://www.epoque-usa.com/epusa_ehs400x.html#ehs500x
Hmmm ... it's not cheap.  It's more that some prices I've seen for the camera itself.

I've seen some grey market C5's listed for as low as $334.  The above housing is like $450.  I'm not sure if they take bullet/POV.

That Samsung camera seems nice too.  I wonder how "weather resistant" it actually is.

The Samsung is more of a camcorder with 10X optical zoom.  But it's picture taking ability is limited to 800x600.
The Sanyo is more of a camera with camcorder form and function.  It only has 5X optical zoom, but takes 5 MPixel JPEGs.

I doubt thats it all that weather tight, but I was just going to stick it in a small dry bag, or maybe eeven a ziplock and put it in my pfd pocket.  Hopefully thats enough for topside use.

This doo-dad looks like a less expensive way to get there, just a lot more bulky.http://www.bulletcam.com/helmet_Cams_products.htm

This one seems to be about the same in a better confugured package...http://www.viosport.com/index.php

I am sure you know this Sean but the helmet cams still require a camcorder to connect to. They are just auxillary lenses really. So you will need a helmet cam plus a camcorder to actually record anything. I am planning on trying a few yak mounted camcorder ideas over the winter. I want to put it on a remote controlled panning mount near the front.

Understood.  I already have a nice, but aging Sony 8mm digi camcorder.  The memory units are just so dang small they are really appealing.
