Another day in paradise.  This time with Golden Arrow and Dad Glenn.  Blue rockfish of very good quality were limitable within minutes.  By the time I left, we had no legal lings between us...........and I released another 22 incher during the paddle in.  Tthis one was returned without catching the attention of the seals.

The amazing part of this day was a result of an on the water chat with a free diver we had seen while we headed out to the pinnacles.  He had a good day.  He had probably a six pound vermillion, a 12 pound ling and.......................drum roll please.............a ling that he estimated at 26 pounds.  It looked like a good estimate to me................. :smt118

Us anglers have been hard pressed to find even one legal ling and this fella had the grandma ling.....from less than 30 feet of water.  I knew hunting was different than fishing but this puts a real face to it for me.

So, now I have a new area to target.......it's good that I like to paddle.............. :smt003

He also said that this was his first trip to Stillwater this season when he has not come in with a sheepshead.  So many fish, so little time........... :smt004

That is awesome!  It seems like skilled spearfishermen can have an advantage at times when the fish are not biting for us.  If they can find them they can shoot them.  Do you know if his vermillion came from less than 30 feet of water also?  Too cool.  Thanks for the report.

Yes, Travis.  I watched where he was working.  Right on the edge of the swell turning into breakers on the rocky shoreline.  It is only 50 feet deep in total up to the breakers.

This guy is one serious free diver.  We chatted about all the same spots that we use too.  He dives, after all, from his kayak.

His set up looks so clean, him in big flippers and the gun and fish stowed in his hatch.  No FF.  No net.

Just think.  The pot winning ling was down in Stillwater South all this time.  Wouldn't that have just made Brian crazy???....... :smt064
