Still working out a few little issues with emoticons but I think everything is working. Let me know if you have any problems.

You are logged in Alan, at least on the forum. Maybe you are talking about the main site? Yeah I am still working on that. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow. You should not need to login to the main site unless you want to put pics in the gallery. If you have pics to post just click on "Additional Options" and attach it directly to your post.

Bill, Nice job. This is pretty high tech now.

Darn fancy, Bill
For those of us who are not geekish, where do we go to find out what the symbols(different colored symbols in front of messages for example) and options mean and do?
Thanks for the cool site, Bill

Hey Bill,

Looks good, but why the change?

I ask because I'm currently running a private phpBB board to coordinate with some colleagues and wanted to know if there where any particular reasons for the change.  For example, does this bulletin board allow users to receive weekly digests or other e-mail based topic tracking?

Thanks,
Brian

Bill,

How come I have to sign in w/ my name and password everytime? Even when I check the box "remember me".
Also, the forum layout is a little too wide for my Sony notebook. I have to scroll to the right to see the entire message. It doesn't autmatically resize the from for the width of my monitor.
Looks great btw, so many bells and whistles.

btw - my signature doesn't show up.

Brain it was a combination of things.

  • PhpBB was getting pretty long in the tooth and "simple" features like attaching pics took hours to implement and then rarely worked
  • SMF has a better message editor
  • No more spelling cow!
  • Adding features to the forum is really easy, they have a package management feature that allows you to upload the package and install it, uninstall with a click as well
  • I love the calander feature on this forum
  • More/better RSS support
  • More active developer community
  • Greater control of features

Elric, I see your signature on your post, did you get it fixed?

I will probably be changing the template soon so I will see if I can get a variable width one. What screen resolution is you laptop?

Pat what icons are you talking about exactly? If you hold you mouse over most of them a little tool tip will pop up with a decription of what they do.

Yes, Bill, most of the symbols them identify their function.  But, some of the identifiers don't mean anything concrete to me.  For example, what is "flash"?  Sounds like something I may want.........:)

And, in a folder, the very first box looks like a generic message window?  Some are blue, some have a little v thing like a dialogue bubble would, some are other colors, some are heavier.  What are they telling me?

My apologies for the lame happy face.  It will be good to have emoticons again.

Flash allows you to link to flash animations on other web sites. While that sounds appealing in reality it is not very useful.

When you are looking a list of messages the ones with a shadow are "sticky" so they stay at the top. Not sure what the different colors mean yet. Emoticons should be fixed tonight, there are a ton of them :-)

How about that!

I am assuming that once we all get the hang of this that you want to keep the calendar to things like tournaments?  I see the "link to calendar" function under messages.
