I want the smallest adequate kayak for both fishing and diving in the ocean.  Any suggestions?

Will a Trident 13 do?  Thanks.

trident 13 is definately adequate. but, imo, the t-140 is a better option.

Can you share what you like about the T-140 over Trident 13?

I need to do some weighing... What I like about the Trident 13 is that it's 60 lbs, vs. T140 which is 75 lbs, if my data is correct.  I thought Trident would be easier to carry up and down cliffs.  I'm just 150 lbs.

Also, does the Trident 13 track well without a rudder?

my son rides a trident 13 and weights about 130.  He fishes and freedives off it and seems to like it.  We did put a rudder on it, it tracks fine but weathercocks easily in the wind

lighter is not better. the hull is thicker, more rigid, stronger and longer-lasting on the t-140. Furthermore, the t-140 has two long channels the length of the hull that provide better tracking. i believe the hull design on the tarpons to be the best of all the s.o.t. kayaks. That said, i do like the rod pod access hatches on the tridents. assuming they are water-tight. I say buy the tarpon, treat it right, and you will never need another yak....until the day comes when you are paddling as hard as you can into a strong headwind and some little girl in a mirage drive hobie pedals right past you.

You sound like a Hobie saleman Jack (j/k)  :smt003

The 13 would be a great boat for fishing and diving. A even better boat for diving is a scupper pro. Light and fast. Your Ocean kayak isnt going to wear out unless you are one of those who drag thier boat across the parking lot. Lighter is better when paddling and carrying. Plus the fact its easier to flip back over if you end up on the wrong side of the ocean. The rod pods are great for stashing gear when coming in through rough water. They are pretty water tight but nothing is 100% watertight. The amount you might get in on a capsize is minimal if you get the boat righted quickly

IMO: you can't beat the easy access storage you get from the Trident 13. Test paddle them all if you can but I just can't see a better all around kayak like the Trident 13.

Everyone drags their boat. some more than others. How much, often depends on where you are launching. i have a friend that has worn holes in 2 different yaks although neither was a ocean kayak. The extra weight is not a factor when paddling. When flipping, you are not lifting the boat you are simply rolling it back over so weight is not much of a factor there either. IMO, the hydrodynamics, performance and durability of the hull are far more important than the dry carrying weight. Don't get me wrong, some of my best friends paddle ocean kayaks.

The tridents definately have some nice features and they both catch fish equally well.

Is "Prowler 13 Angler" related to "Prowler Trident 13 Angler"?  I see their prices are substantially different, but they look very similar...  Are they made by the same company?  Different series of the same model?  Thanks.

They are both different models - same company

The Prowler 13 Angler does not have the rod pod and the sonar shield but it comes with the 2 flushmount rod holders

The Prowler Trident 13 Angler has the rod pod, sonar shield and two flushmount rod holders
