Hi all, first time poster. Looking to become one of the family and start fishing from a kayak. In the market for a sit on top fishing kayak. Looking for an ocean kayak or wilderness systems or any yak suited for the bays and capable of handling the open ocean. Want to get in fishing for cod once the season opens in a few months, but want to get a yak asap to see how it handles in the water. Thank you.

Criag/revensblack has two scupper pros for sale. You should check the classifieds section. I also think Al has a WS T160 for sale

If you mean me?  Think we are going to keep the T140 I got from John.  Sara is getting used to it, but I still need to do some work on the rigging for her to be comfortable fishing in it.

Them scupper pros are in great condition, i'd give them a look!

wondering if any of the yaks metioned are good for beginners? quick question, what seperates a beignner yak from a more advanced yak?

Hi Yakers:

Fat and slow is good for a start but, long and narrow is better for Wind and Tracking.
Scrambler XT vs Scupper Pro TW are both good Yaks but at opposite ends.
        Pro/Stable         Con/ less than XT
        Con/Slow          Pro/ Fast
Ab diving some   Fishing long range 4-6 Miles Round trip
short range Fishing.
I would stay away from cheap inflatables! :smt044
I fish and dive off a O.K. Scupper Classic "Sea Bskt" but, Hobie and other
Vendors have great Yaks. It's all depends on what you want to do and, how much Money you want to spend.
Your Ass is on the line so, I would purchase a new VHF, PFD to
start off and, try as many Yaks before you buy. Monterey Bay Kayaking
is offering some surf and fishing Classes.

What he said...  but your butt comes into play, too, (how big is it?)

Scuppers are creat boats but mostly for smaller builds.

Yes, I do have a Tarpon 16i for sale, and could accessorize to your requirements if you decide to go with a long fast boat.

You really ought to visit a kayak retailer & test paddle as many boats as you can. Kayaks fit like skis or surfboards, there are a gazillion variables. Once you find a yak you like, then start looking to buy one, either used or new.
I would also recommend an intro to kayaking safety class from any of our reputable kayak shops in the area. A class will shave years of trial & error off of your learning curve.
kayak fishing in the ocean is 90% kayaking and 10% fishing.
