well i'm not 100% sure since I don't know him, but from the pictures he posted on coastside and the power lines in the background i was pretty sure i recognized the area as being the far south bay.  plus he left about 1 hour before weigh in to get back in time for that tournament he was in.

there are sturgeon in the san leandro area though, on the edges of san bruno shoals.

There are definitely sturgeon near the San Leandro Marina.  An old time fish slayer once told me he used to catch'em near the clearly marked boat channel leading out from the marina to the middle of the bay.  If I was going to try for sturgeon this Saturday, I would paddle at least half-a-mile out, anchor up current of the boat channel, and toss my bait close to the drop-off (but safely out of the way of boats).  Sturgeon are known to cruise the drop-offs.

Our Shark Derby is just a group activity (with lots of fun action) to work up to the main event, our AOTY Picnic, but if you guys are want to target dino's, they're out there.

Will anyone have a grill fired up?

do pigs squeel?= dooood, of coarse a grill will get fired up, we aint eating friut&salads all day.

Heheh, wrong time of year for thresher's.  It's been a long time waitin for a shark derby.  I'm really lookin forward to this one!

 I have no idea what this area is like (the last time I did any urban paddling was in Oakland). Are there fees for parking & launching?

Yeah, I have no idea either... ill bring some cash for fees just in case, i haven't done any urban paddling, only coastal. I've power boated the bay twice years ago, the second time was freaky as hell on our way back in, scary ride in the PB.

Not all of it.  The restricted area around the airport is clearly marked by bouys.  No worries.
