* rouge waves are called "rouge" waves because they come out from the norm

I thought these only happened during a "red" tide?   :smt002

Good photo report joel.  should been there with ya.  And agree about the sensationalistic journalism.  whatever it takes to bump up viewership with these the so called "news"...

That was good timing Mooch, you had a great angle on the flood.
No, I don't recognize that guy. I don't think he's a local unless he likes playing in the lagoon on days like that like some of us do. He certainly did not catch any clean faces that day. Maybe he needed some attention and he was successful.
There's a good chance the guys you saw going out were members of the Tsunami Rangers. You ever see that guy's house (Rick Powers?) at the south end of Miramar, with lots of wood carvings and two poles on the cliff for sliding down kayaks? The club is kind of folded. But they love the big water. They call the lagoon the pond.
I don't think rouge wave is a good description of that carnage. It's really a surge. At high tide the waves break over the north side along with the west and the water level goes up and down like crazy. The actual wave is a new reform, not a big old wave.
Why did you drive up north, did you move? BTW, a good way to access the point (it's an AFB, not navy), is to go up Cyprus in Moss Beach which turns into airport road. Then go up into the 'hood on the cliff south of the distillery. Go as far as you can, and it is where the trails start to the point and harbor. It's where Wetsand has their Mavericks cam. You would need a telescope to watch from there, but it's a good angle. Trails to the Mavs parking lot and the beach. I go up there to gaze every few months.

Tim, you are right, it's more of a surge than a wave really. Still, it's unpredictable and it's got enough power to take people out.

Headed north cause I'm currently staying at my sisters place in Daly City till I move to Alaska. I do miss living in HMB!!!
